We join our school community in mourning the loss of longtime Springs Valley employee, Edith Pinnick, whose 42 years of dedicated service (1972–2015) left a lasting impact on generations of students and staff. Edith’s commitment to improving education was matched by her kindness and generosity, often shared through her baking—especially the desserts and treats she lovingly prepared for staff during the Christmas season.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be made to the Springs Valley Education Foundation, a designated Springs Valley school club or organization, or by performing a good deed in Edith’s memory.

View Edith Pinnick's obituary, send flowers, find service dates, and sign the guestbook.

Thank you to the Melton Library and Springs Valley Schools (Abby and Shaylee) for creating this beautiful ornament that is being proudly displayed at the IN Statehouse to honor Orange County's commitment to the Dolly Parton's Imagination Library.

The SV Education Foundation is proud to be a partner with Robin Coulter and the Melton Library to bring free books to all children under the age of 5 that live in the Springs Valley School district.

Remembering Bill Harris

The Springs Valley Education Foundation is deeply saddened by the passing of our dear friend, colleague, and current board member, Bill Harris.

Bill served faithfully for many years as a member of the Foundation’s Board of Directors, contributing his time and talents to the Hall of Fame Committee, Akers Golf Tournament Committee, Scholarship Committee, and more. He was a person you could always count on—dependable, thoughtful, and quick to take action when something needed to be done. Bill played a key role in planning and organizing the Foundation’s annual Chuck Akers Memorial Golf Tournament, an event especially close to his heart as it honored his friend and fellow teacher.

A 1966 graduate of Springs Valley High School and a 2011 Hall of Fame inductee, Bill devoted his life to education and to the Springs Valley community. For 37 years, he served as a teacher, coach, and administrator—earning the respect and admiration of students, athletes, and colleagues alike. His career was defined by excellence, loyalty, and a deep love for the Blackhawk tradition.

Bill Harris leaves behind a lasting legacy of service, leadership, and integrity. His influence will continue to be felt across the halls, classrooms, and playing fields of Springs Valley for generations to come.

The Foundation extends its heartfelt condolences to his wife Gail, his daughters, grandchildren and the entire family. We are forever grateful for Bill’s friendship, wisdom, and years of dedication to our mission and the entire Springs Valley community.

The Akers Fund and SV Alumni are making a difference!!

Thanks to the school’s ‘Akers Fund’ and a donation from the ‘SV Alumni’ fund we just received 5 new Garmin watches. Just in time for our first meet tomorrow.!!

The Springs Valley Education Foundation supports the Akers Fund with profits from Chuck’s annual golf tournament. This fund helps kids with the costs of competing in extra and co-curricular activities at Springs Valley. The SV Alumni Fund was established this year so Alumni can directly support the needs of our teams and athletes.

Thank you to the SV ED Foundation and to our awesome SV Alumni!!

Our deepest condolences to the family and friends of former teacher and coach, Kevin Mills. Just over three weeks ago, the Springs Valley Education Foundation had the privilege of inducting Coach Mills into the SV Hall of Fame, honoring his lasting contributions and the profound impact he made as both an educator and coach. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him, but his legacy will continue to inspire generations to come.

During Springs Valley Alumni Weekend, we were deeply moved by the many luminaries purchased in memory of classmates, friends, family members, and beloved teachers. Each light represented a life remembered, a story cherished, and a connection that still burns brightly in our hearts.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who participated in this meaningful tribute. Your support helps keep the spirit of our Blackhawk community alive—and reminds us that while time may pass, the bonds we share remain strong.
