Valley Votes Project Discuss town issues such as zoning and etc

02/23/2024

At the next meeting I will be addressing the lack of affordable housing issue. The need for more ambulances, the stories I'm hearing on this one in particular have me stunned. How different grants from the state are obtained and what someone should do to seek them out. And how long it'll take for them to get a decent website made and start putting info out for the community. Public transportation. I'm still taking in the responses and I will probably be adding to the list, these stick out to me as some of the most urgent.

I'm working on getting the video from the last meeting uploaded. I apologize for the delay. The two topics I asked about at this one were daycare and a teen center. They confirmed nothing had been planned or actions taken on either. They said they needed two things first, someone who can run it, oversee the INS and outs basically, the second is they need IDEAS on what it should have for the teens. They said no one in the community has given them any input on what it should offer. And they claim to be in talks with the school on what a teen center might need.

In my opinion we can probably take a page or two from other towns on how their teen centers are set up and what they offer. And my personal ideas for what one should have:

- Transportation for teens. This seems vital for kids from outside city limits, or places like the houses on top of French Lick hill that require walking down or across the highway.

- Free Wifi. Alot of school work is online many teens don't have access to wifi, and we wonder why the dropout rate is increasing so much.

- A blessing box much like the one at the church by the school.

For starters I think these items are essential.

What do you think our teen center should have?

So the big question is what does French Lick need? What would you the community like to see money spent on? Nutrition, recreation, public transportation, affordable childcare, etc.

At the last redevelopment committee one of the members said something to the effect of "There's money but we don't have anyone in the community telling us what they would want."

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE SPREAD THIS TO EVERYONE YOU KNOW THAT LIVES OR WORKS IN THIS AREA!!!! I've seen y'all put your opinions out there now and here is where I ask folks to share their ideas. I will bring up some of the undeniably pressing needs at the next meeting. The meetings are open to the public anyone who would like to tell officials what this area needs for themselves are welcome to come as well.

Many have asked about when meetings are and places. Are they open to the public here is a complete list of all that. And also contact info for the officials attending, sorry not many have any that's something I find disappointing as well. Meeting times and places for all things related to anything that our leaders make decisions on for the French Lick Town.

Since I started recording the town meetings I have learned a few things I would like to share with everyone, these are my own opinions of course. But I wouldn't put them out there if I wasn't sure of them:

1. Many of the decision makers are content with 🤷 as a conclusion to real concerns in our community.

2. It is difficult to find information on any public matters without asking the RIGHT questions to SPECIFIC people. So unless you know exactly how to word the question and where to go to find your answer than you have almost no hope of finding information about our community.

3. The most important thing I've learned is THINGS CAN AND WILL CHANGE!!! In the most recent redevelopment committee meeting I asked about plans to rebuild the teen center, and plans to bring afford childcare to French Lick. You are welcome to watch the videos I will post soon to my YouTube and FB page and decide for yourself how acceptable their answers were but I believe something has definitely been initiated as of now.

I want the people of French Lick to understand something, nothing in this area will get better unless WE do something to make it happen. I'm trying to bring some transparency and accountability to the leadership but I can only do so much without support.

If you can attend meetings. Come with questions, or complaints, come make your voices heard at the place where you can find solutions. If you can't attend message me about what you want them to answer on. I PROMISE I WILL MAKE YOUR VOICE HEARD. Watch my videos. Like my FB and subscribe to my YouTube page. Get involved and start paying attention. Do it for yourself and your children and grandchildren. I know it all feels hopeless and you might think the people elected don't care, you've probably been right to think that but small government runs our community wether we like it or not and only we can make them do it better.
