Starting this business has taught me that people need more than a list of services before they feel comfortable trusting someone with something personal. They want to understand who you are, how you work, whether you will listen, and whether they can ask questions without feeling judged. That is part of why I have learned to share more of myself, even when being visible does not come naturally to me.

The same belief carries into consultations at Nurtured Soul Wellness. That first conversation is not something to rush through. It is where trust, expectations, comfort, and a thoughtful care plan begin.

After more than 25 years in the lab, stepping into business ownership meant carrying forward the precision and discipline of that work while learning an entirely different set of skills. The ribbon cutting means more to me than opening a door or marking a business milestone. It represents the moment something I had been carrying as an idea became a real place where people could come in, slow down, ask questions, and receive one-on-one care without feeling rushed.

There were a lot of uncertain steps between forming the business and creating a space of my own, so seeing Nurtured Soul Wellness here in Fremont feels deeply personal. I wanted this space to feel calm and intentional because the environment is part of the care too.

Trying to build a practice while carrying the responsibilities of another demanding career sounds manageable until you see what the days actually look like. Calls continue after leaving work, responsibilities follow you home, and the new business gets whatever energy is left. This part of the Nurtured Soul Wellness story explains why creating the practice required more than ambition.

It required enough space to give the work, and eventually the clients, the attention they deserved.

This was our first year participating in Relay for Life, and being surrounded by survivors, families, and people walking in memory of someone they love was incredibly meaningful to me. My own family has experienced the loss that can come with cancer, and that history continues to shape the way I approach oncology-informed skin care.

I stay within my scope, listen carefully, and let comfort, dignity, and what the skin is showing us that day guide the session. For me, this work is not about doing more. It is about being thoughtful about what is appropriate for the person in front of me.

Events like Relay for Life remind me why creating a calm, private space matters so much. When someone has been through something difficult, feeling comfortable enough to lower their guard can be meaningful in itself.

Nurtured Soul Wellness was created to feel different from a rushed, high-volume environment. I wanted each person to have time, privacy, thoughtful conversation, and a space where they can simply be cared for without feeling like they need to explain or perform their way through the experience.

Being part of Relay for Life brought me back to one of the reasons this work matters so much to me. Cancer has touched my own family, so supporting people navigating an oncology journey is not an abstract part of what I do.

Oncology-informed skin care is about approaching the skin with care, thoughtful communication, and respect for what someone may be carrying physically and emotionally. Sometimes the goal is simply helping a person feel a little more comfortable and a little more like themselves in their skin.
