The Guide Dogs for the Blind Puppy Raisers of Fremont, CA are proud to announce that Vanya has graduated as a guide from Guide Dogs for the Blind! Vanya was raised in our club by Madeline and Janine Weston. After returning to campus for formal guide dog training, Vanya went through rigorous training and guide work assessment with professional guide dog mobility instructors and has been matched with their handler.

As a guide dog, Vanya will work with their partner to navigate the complexities of pedestrian travel in their new home environment. They will also live as a beloved member of their new family while doing the work that they were born to do.

To learn more about GDB’s programs and how you can support Vanya on their next chapter of this journey, and how you can become a puppy raising volunteer, visit guidedogs.com. 💚

Nothing builds community better than a Guide Dogs for the Blind 🦯🦮 puppy-raising workshop! Today our Fremont club joined clubs from San Francisco and Santa Cruz to learn, discuss, and practice the best training techniques with our Puppy Raising Field Manager, Cyndi Davis. Our biggest takeaway, is that positive reinforcement training is not only good for the puppies and we raise, but also the people we interact with.
PD: Nine culturally diverse members of the Guide Dog Puppy Raisers Fremont club, spanning from teenagers to retired adults, gather with field manager, Cyndi, for a group photo. Raisers are bundled in their winter jackets and pose along the back wall of the gym with six of their black and yellow puppies of various ages sitting obediently at their feet, smiling and beaming with pride.

Guide Dogs for the Blind – Fremont, CA Puppy Raisers

Guide Dogs for the Blind (GDB) is a nonprofit, charitable organization that was established in 1942 to provide a safe means of mobility for people who are blind and visually impaired. GDB is the largest Guide Dog school in the country, and continues its dedication to quality student training services and extensive follow-up support for graduates. Our programs are made possible through the teamwork of staff, volunteers and generous donors. GDB receives no government funds. Services are provided to students from the United States and Canada at no cost to them. We operate two training facilities (one is headquartered in San Rafael, California—20 miles north of San Francisco, another in Boring, Oregon—25 miles east of Portland), and have more than 2,000 volunteer puppy raising families throughout the Western states. More than 15,000 teams have graduated since our founding, and there are approximately 2,200 active guide dog teams currently in the field.
