We were excited to welcome Ashley Spangler, Head of Student Career Readiness at North Point Educational Service Center, as our Rotary speaker!

Ashley shared about the important work happening through North Point ESC to help students prepare for life beyond the classroom — connecting students with career opportunities, workplace experiences, and the skills they need to succeed. 🎓💼

We loved learning more about how North Point is building connections and creating impact in the lives of students throughout our communities!

This week, the Oak Harbor Rotary Club welcomed our own member, Jim Crist, Chairman of the Board, of the Ottawa County Family & Children First Council (FCFC) to share the incredible work they’re doing throughout Ottawa County.

FCFC brings together public agencies, private organizations, and community partners to ensure children and families receive the support they need—without having to navigate multiple systems on their own.

Their collaborative efforts include:
👶 Community Baby Showers
🧸 Happy Hive Play Groups
👨‍👩‍👧 Family Service Coordination
🤝 Early Childhood Collaboration
🏡 Housing Coalition initiatives
👩‍👦 Support for new mothers through the CARA Team
🚪 “No Wrong Door” training for frontline professionals

By connecting families with resources, reducing gaps in services, and fostering collaboration, FCFC is making a lasting impact across Ottawa County.

Today our Rotary Club had the privilege of hearing from Andy Boone about the incredible work of MESA (Medical Equipment and Supplies Abroad), an international service project of Rotary District 6600.

Founded in 1981 by the Rotary Clubs of Northwest Ohio, MESA is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that collects new and gently used medical equipment and supplies, then ships them to communities around the world where these life-changing resources are desperately needed.

One of the most inspiring reminders from today’s presentation was simple:

“MESA collects and sends used and new medical equipment around the globe.”

What may no longer be needed here can mean the difference between life and death somewhere else. Through the power of Rotary, equipment that would otherwise go unused is providing hope, healing, and dignity to people across the world.

Thank you, Andy Bone, for sharing how MESA continues to embody Rotary’s motto of Service Above Self and for reminding us that even what seems ordinary can have an extraordinary impact when we choose to serve others.

🇺🇸✨ Celebrating 250 Years of Freedom ✨🇺🇸

This year marks an incredible milestone in our nation’s history — 250 years since the birth of the United States. As part of this special celebration, our Oak Harbor Rotary members had the privilege of sharing copies of the U.S. Constitution with those in our community.

There’s something powerful about putting that document into someone’s hands — a reminder of the foundation our country was built on: liberty, responsibility, unity, and the ongoing pursuit of a “more perfect union.”

We are grateful to serve through Rotary, where “Service Above Self” isn’t just a motto, it’s a way of life. Moments like this remind us that history isn’t just something we look back on — it’s something we continue to live out together.

Here’s to honoring our past, engaging our present, and shaping a future worth passing on. 🇺🇸

Saturday, July 4 11am-1pm at IGA Community Markets

Join us as we celebrate 250 years of the United States of America—a milestone honoring the freedoms, values, and history that have shaped our nation.

As part of the celebration, Oak Harbor Rotary will be handing out copies of the United States Constitution. It’s a wonderful opportunity to take home one of our nation’s founding documents, reflect on the principles it was built upon, and share its importance with the next generation.

Whether you’re coming for the festivities, the community spirit, or to learn a little more about our nation’s history, we hope you’ll stop by and celebrate with us!
