Where do we go when all else fails? How do we actually get our health in order?
BAY AREA INDIAN NURSES ASSOCIATION (BAINA) decided to meet Desis right where they are. Because if Mohammad won’t come to the mountain…
The energy at the Sunnyvale Hindu Temple felt like home. Punjabi, Telugu, Tamil, Hindi all swirling around the room. I found myself switching between languages all morning without even thinking about it, such a fun brain exercise :)
Fatima Arastu DNP, MBA, RN, NEA-BC, CNEn®, C., kudos to you for building this (Hyderabadis rule!). As table neighbors though, it was hard to watch people literally scurry past the su***de prevention table saying “not for me.” But between Rcoz (Our Cause) - A South Asian Mental Health Awareness Initiative, you, and the growing number of orgs doing this work, we’ll get there.
On our end, the “Chalo Baatein Karen” banner helped break the ice. Somehow, talking about mental health in their language, in a kurta, with a bindi… it just made it easier to start.
Thank you to the 25+ people who stopped by to learn about us, our upcoming gala, and the youth who wanted to be part of the High School Changemaker program. Learn more here: https://www.rcoz.us/events/
Sandip Sall DNP, FNP-BC, thank you for making it so easy for us to be there. We’re already looking forward to doing this again with you in August.
@ Deepa , this wouldn’t have happened without you and it definitely helped that my niece was there, quietly supervising me. Thank you ❤️
So glad I got to meet so many people working so hard to make health, physical or mental, more accessible.
Thank you BAINA for everything you do for the community!
