As I Am Media We are a nonprofit media organization that explores the intersection of Christian faith with the Asian American experience. As I Am is an affiliate of SOBEM US.

Supporting the next wave of Asian American Christian believers to find their voice. As I Am Media exists to amplify Asian American Christian voices by producing uplifting content that challenges us to think about how identity impacts our daily lives.

“God was always there.”

Born in China during the one-child policy and unable to remain with her birth family, Melissa was adopted into a loving family in America just 10 months later.

Looking back, she sees God’s hand in a story she couldn’t control.

Her story is a reminder that sometimes we can’t see where life is going, but God can.

Meet Melissa Joy Yeung.

Adopted from China and raised in a loving Christian family, Melissa grew up learning what it means to serve others. At 18, she discovered the names of her birth parents and eventually met her birth family, including a sister she had never known.

Today, she serves others through occupational therapy, advocacy, teaching, and her faith.

From adoption and identity to caring for veterans and discovering her calling, Melissa shares how God has faithfully guided her journey.

Why were our parents always thinking about the future?

For many of us, sacrifice wasn’t just a value, it was a way of life. Working hard, making decisions for the next generation, and hoping their children could have opportunities they never had.

Sometimes that became pressure. But when surrendered to Jesus, these values can become a beautiful reflection of His Kingdom.

Legacy isn’t about building our name. It’s about faithfully investing in what lasts.

Were we taught to be humble… or hide ourselves?

Growing up Asian, many of us learned:
• Be modest
• Listen more than you speak
• Serve quietly

But maybe those values weren’t meant to disappear.
Maybe they were meant to be redeemed.

God doesn’t erase our culture. He transforms it for His glory.

The greatest strength of community? Showing up. ❤️

Many of us grew up seeing this through our families: meals delivered, rides offered, and people stepping in when life gets hard.

Maybe that’s why community is such a powerful picture of God’s heart. We were never meant to follow Jesus alone.
