Boy Scout Troop 120 - Fremont CA

Boy Scout Troop 120 - Fremont CA Meetings:
Every other week Zoom vs face-to-face. Virtual Meetings: Zoom
Face-to-Face: Millard School Troop 120 began operations in October 2017.

Troop 120 is about 45-49 Scouts, typically including about 8-10 first-year Scouts. Our Scouts span the age range from 10 1/2 to almost 18 with ranks from Scout to Eagle. We have 4 active Eagle Scouts, and 2 Life Scouts actively working on their Eagle Projects. Our scouts come from Cub Scout packs in and around Fremont, Union City and Newark as well as some who have never been Cub Scouts. Troop 120

split from Troop 199, which then totaled almost 100 Scouts, when our Scouts and parents decided that the troop would better serve our Scouts if we were a smaller, more manageable size. The Chartering organization is Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish. Troop 120 meets weekly year-round. Average attendance at any single meeting is 35+ Scouts plus parents. We also have monthly outings which primarily involve camping. Please see our calendar for an idea of future outings. Service projects are an important part of the culture of Troop 120. We participate in service to schools, scouts and our community year round. Troop Activities

Troop 120 is all about having fun while enabling the Scouts to develop to their full potential through adventures and opportunities. Scouts get an opportunity to plan, prepare and implement the troop activities with some guidance from leaders and parents. Activities include:

· 10-11 campouts a year: rain, snow or shine

· 1-2 high adventure trips over Spring break or summer

· Summer Camp: one week

· 5-7 service projects annually

· Day outings

Our calendar is annually planned by the Patrol Leader Council and accepted by the Parent Troop Committee. We do our best to keep the dates fixed once the calendar has been set but occasionally some activities will get changed from what is listed due to weather, the availability of the facilities, etc. Other activities may be added depending on interest of Scouts and support of parents and leaders.

This eagle scout created an outdoor meditation area at Project Pride, a women's rehabilitation center in Oakland, California. She also built a children's area with a playground and swings. The project cost was around $4800 which she raised through an independent, online campaign. She was awarded at the Las Aguilas Annual Recognition Dinner, on May 4, 2022, at the Blackhawk Auto Museum in Danville, California. Read more about it here -

Troop 120 went to Moaning Caverns and we had a lot of fun. The cave tour was pretty neat and we saw a bunch of cool geological features. We went swimming after at Natural Bridges and the scouts had a ton of fun. Overall, Moaning Caverns was a great experience to people who have not been caving before and still fun to people who have.

Last week Troop 120 went to Camp Chawanakee for summer camp and we had a lot of fun! They had tons of cool stuff like canoeing, archery, and climbing. This camp is right on the water so there were plenty of aquatic activities like swimming and kayaking. There are so many different merit badges from welding to Indian lore and they are taught by very helpful staff members. They even have a First-year camper program which teaches basic scout skills like firem'n-chit, totin chip, etc. We learned a lot from this camp and overall, Camp Chawanakee is a very fun place and we had a great time there!
