Busy day at the Lincoln Douglas Kiwanis breakfast! We were pleased to induct Hillary Broshous, Deputy Chief of Freeport Fire Department, as a new member! We also had the privilege of having Dr. Jamal Scott, HCC President introduce himself and share his vision of the future of our community college! If you have ever wondered what organizations are in the area that are looking for members or volunteers, check out the joining fair tomorrow at the Farm Bureau Building. The Lincoln Douglas Kiwanis will be there to answer questions about our group, and there are many other organizations representing the various community groups that would love to share their story.

Today we welcomed TJ Jackson to speak to our group regarding his many roles within the Freeport school District as head basketball coach and college and career academy coach where he helps students navigate post secondary pathways, career planning and scholarship applications. Mr. Jackson is also active in student mentorship and community programs around Freeport. We thank TJ for taking time out of his busy first week of the school year to share with us today!

We were happy to welcome Gertrude Heimerdinger, City of Freeport Community & Economic Development Director, as our guest speaker on 7/29. Gertrude explained the various divisions within the Department and the roles they play in keeping our neighborhoods safe, establishing building standards, guiding development, supporting local businesses, improving transportation, managing grants and planning for the City’s future. Quite an undertaking to achieve their goal of building community spirit and pride! Thank you so much, Gertrude, for speaking with us!
