Freeport Student Garden The Freeport Student Garden uses gardening as a tool to teach Freeport youth job readiness skills. We are located behind Freeport Middle School. and Locust Ave.

You can purchase our produce at our Self-Service Farmstand or at the Stephenson County Farmers Market. We are located south of the intersection of Empire St. in Freeport, IL.

We are still overflowing with with peppers and tomatoes. If you missed us at the market, we’ll be restocking the stand in just a little bit. Come on down this weekend to the corner of Locust and Empire by the FMS soccer fields. 🌶️🫑🍅💚

We are also wishing two recent graduates a great start to their school year at Highland Community College!

Madelyne is working as our High Tunnel Manager. In this role, she supervises the day-to-day operations of our cucumber and tomato high tunnels. The data she and her student employees collect is a part of our USDA Specialty Crop Block Grant research partnering with Illinois Extension.

Conner serves as our Chicken Crew Lead. In this role, he supervises the Chicken Crew who care for our egg-laying hens, meat chickens, and turkeys. Our meat chickens are sold directly to food bank and distributed to local food pantries.

Welcome back to school, Freeport High School students!!! Help us wish the students(not all pictured) from the garden staff and chicken crew a great 2026-2027 school year!

We are looking forward to a great last few months of our growing season with a few more weeks of our CSA program, weekly deliveries to the food pantry, and a couple more weeks at the farmers market.
