🌼🕯️ Luz y Recuerdo: A Night of Remembrance & Celebration 🕯️🌼

This year, we join again. Freeport Main Street is honored to join the countywide Día de los Mu***os celebration taking place throughout Brazoria County.

Día de los Mu***os, or Day of the Dead, is a Mexican tradition with roots reaching back to the Indigenous peoples of Mesoamerica, who practiced traditions honoring those who had passed.

Today, Día de los Mu***os is a beautiful expression of Mexican culture centered on remembrance, family and the continuing connection between generations. Through photographs, ofrendas, flowers, candles, music, food and gathering together, families honor the lives and memories of loved ones who have passed.

Freeport Main Street invites our community to take part in Luz y Recuerdo — A Night of Remembrance & Celebration.

Our evening will begin with a remembrance procession primarily around Memorial Park, across from the Freeport Historical Museum. We invite participants to bring a photograph of a loved one who has passed and carry it with them as we walk together in their memory.

Following the procession, we will gather for an evening featuring mariachi and folklórico performances as we celebrate life, heritage and the memories that connect us.

🏛️ The Freeport Historical Museum is also participating in the countywide Día de los Mu***os celebration with a community altar and poster exhibition. We encourage you to follow the Museum and visit it to learn more!

For Freeport, participating in this countywide celebration is an opportunity to come together, learn about a meaningful cultural tradition and create a space where our community can remember those who came before us and celebrate the stories they left behind.
