Tri-Town Equity and Inclusion Coalition (TTEIC) celebrates Indigenous Peoples Day along with all of our community. In keeping with our aim to work together to create an inclusive, equitable community for everyone, we affirm our solidarity and commitment to Wabanaki people and to the Indigenous land we are on. Thanks to Wabanaki advocacy efforts, in the last few years, we have seen increased momentum in efforts to redress historic racist and colonial harms whose consequences persist today. These harms include 400 years of stolen land, broken treaties, child removal, and genocide. Indigenous Peoples’ Day is a reminder of what has happened in the past, and how that past informs our future. In Maine, we are responsible for taking action within ourselves and our communities to actively repair damages and support tribal sovereignty. We affirm our commitment to seek out and deepen our understanding of histories that have been erased - from organizations such as Wabanaki Reach, the Maine Indian Tribal-State Commission, and Atlantic Black Box. We also commit to action, including ongoing efforts to remove insensitive stereotypical characterizations like the Freeport Indian Statue erected in 1969 as a marketing ploy for then Freeport Trading Post. TTEIC simultaneously recognizes historic atrocities - while listening to Wabanaki people as we do our part to work toward a hopeful future - a future that includes repair and tribal self-determination and well-being.

WE’RE HIRING A FOOD AND RESOURCE NAVIGATOR!

This is a temporary full-time position, 37.5 hours per week, located at Freeport Community Services but primarily working at two hotels in Freeport serving New Mainers. General working hours are 8:00 am-4:00 pm, Monday through Friday. However, this position must be flexible to accommodate the needs of the organization and may require some evenings and weekend hours on occasion.

We are looking for someone excited to make an impact with our newest neighbors. Specifically, we are looking for an experienced case manager/resource navigator who has a strong understanding of local resources and the immigration system. As the population of asylum seekers hails from the Democratic Republic of Congo, Angola, Haiti, and beyond, the ideal candidate will have experience with these cultures. Ability to speak French, Portuguese, or Lingala in addition to English preferred.
