On Wednesday, August 5th, BLS 1561 and the chief transferred to Neptune Township with our partners with Howell Police EMS to provide EMS coverage for the afternoon/ evening so our friends with Neptune Township EMS could attend the funeral services for their leader and a friend to many, Chief Bil Rosen.

Both Howell and Freehold EMS units covered several calls for service during the afternoon hours and also attended services for Chief Rosen along with countless others around the county and state who came to honor Bil’s service and legacy. Freehold EMS units operated in Neptune until 20:00 before turning operations back over to NTEMS.

Thank you to Neptune EMS and the NJEMSTF for your trust, friendship and for allowing us the honor and privilege of serving your community during this difficult time.

Freehold EMS, alongside our public safety partners around Monmouth County and the state, mourn the line-of-duty death of Neptune Township EMS Chief Bil Rosen. A respected leader, educator, mentor, and a very much needed advocate for first responder mental health. Bil was a close friend to Freehold EMS and many more in Monmouth County and beyond. We are grateful to have hosted Bil on many occasions for different training opportunities as well as working alongside him during large scale events and drills in his role as a Deputy County EMS Coordinator.

Our thoughts are with his family, friends, and his extended family with Neptune Township EMS, Shark River Hills First Aid Squad, Inc, Neptune Township Office of Emergency Management, and the NJ EMS Task Force.

Rest easy, Chief Rosen.

****3RD ALARM STRUCTURE FIRE****

Last night, at approximately 22:00 hours, Freehold EMS was requested on the initial dispatch, with East Freehold Fire Company and the Freehold Township Police Department into Freehold Township for a report of fire. Units arrived on the scene of a commercial warehouse with heavy fire conditions present prompting what eventually escalated to the 3rd alarm assignment bringing in fire suppression units from around the county.

On duty EMS personnel arrived on scene, and in coordination with incident command under a unified command structure, and our partners with the Monmouth County Fire Marshall's Office, strategically positioned EMS assets throughout the scene, established and provided EMS staffing for firefighter rehab and maintained additional units for routine 911 call response. To ensure the safety of all personnel on scene, mutual aid was requested from our neighbors with Marlboro Emergency Medical Services who assisted on scene with rehab for several hours. Thank you to our friends with Gordons Corner Fire Co for your prompt and professional response with your rehab unit in support of our operations. During the operation, FEMS units handled multiple other requests for service in town. EMS units on scene operated for approximately 14 hours before being released.

East Freehold Assistant Chief 16-2-67 retained command of the incident and Freehold EMS Deputy Chief 15-51 served as the EMS Branch Director.

***FLEET FRIDAY***

Next up for our Fleet Friday series, we proudly present one of our two command vehicles, Unit 1521, a 2023 Chevrolet Tahoe with unfitting completed by our friends at Safety First Emergency Vehicles.

Custom built for Freehold EMS, this unit was planned, built, and delivered in 2023 as a supplemental command vehicle for managing large scale incidents, and mass causualty incidents. This unit is equipped with a full compliment of emergency warning devices, a command center in the rear of the vehicle and multiple radios for communications on emergency assignments. In addition, unit 1521 is also equipped with all first line medical equipment and routinely can be spotted responding to medical emergencies with our responding ambulances and local paramedic units.

This unit is the first brand new SUV that Freehold EMS purchased since 2011 ensuring our response fleet maintains prepared for any emergency within our community while also ensuring the latest upgraded safety features for our personnel. This vehicle is assigned the
operational command staff.

Freehold EMS, as always are proud of our work with our mutual aid partners. As always, we are staffed and ready to respond whenever called upon.

On Saturday night at approximately 10:35 units were dispatched to Interstate 195 in the area of MM 15 westbound, for a vehicle into the woods. Squad 32 arrived to find multiple injuries and one subject trapped. Multiple EMS units were requested and the crew from the Squad extricated the trapped subject. Ambulances 3259 and 3258 transported along with mutual aid from Jackson Township EMS, Freehold Emergency Medical Services, Upper Freehold Township and Howell Township.

Next up for our Fleet Friday series, we proudly present, Ambulance 1561. A 2025 E-450 Gas unit.

Custom built for Freehold EMS, this unit was planned and ordered in 2023 and delivered in 2025 from Braun Ambulance, through First Priority Emergency Vehicles. Traditionally, our agency maintained a primary response fleet of four ambulances however because of increased call volume and higher demand for special events coverage, as well as the increase demand on our current fleet units, we increased our frontline response fleet to 5 ambulances. This ambulance was a part of our comprehensive fleet replacement program, ensuring our vehicles keep up with modern regulations and safety standards for both our patients and members.

Ambulance 1561, just days after being placed in service, responded into Southern Ocean County as part of the Monmouth County BLS Strike Team in support of the EMS response for the Jones Road Wildfires.
