Today the Monmouth County Detectives PBA Local 256 of the Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office had the privilege of donating food to the staff at CentraState Medical Center. We can't thank them enough for all their hard work, dedication, and efforts during this pandemic. They are the true heroes.

This was coordinated through the Monmouth County Conference of PBA Delegates in an effort to donate to all five Monmouth County hospitals in order to thank them for everything they are doing for our residents.

We would like to thank The Bistro at Red Bank for their generous help in making this possible.

Great work South Amboy PBA LOCAL #63 making your city Christmas Tree lighting a "Line of Duty Christmas" tree. The tree decorated in blue lights represents and honors the 111 law enforcement officers 2019. Each ornament has name, department, photo of each officer.

Congratulations and best of luck to Detective Michael Bonanno who began his law enforcement career in 1991, first working as a dispatcher in Neptune City Police , and later was hired as a police officer with the Neptune Township Police Department.

After being hired by the MCPO, Mike worked as the proverbial swing man, serving so admirably in a number of office capacities. Mike worked in Trial Support, Major Crimes, the Narcotics and Criminal Investigation Section and, more recently the Professional Responsibility and Bias Crimes Unit. Mike’s contributions to our mission are immeasurable, but perhaps most notably played a substantial role in investigating cases in both the Narcotics and Major Crimes Bureaus. Mike also played a key role in bringing an important witness to the stand in the murder case of Sarah Stern.

Over the more recent past, Mike has worked on Professional Responsibility cases to ensure that the integrity of the Monmouth law enforcement community continues to be upheld by ensuring officers’ whose conduct run afoul of the law are removed from the sworn community.

Perhaps even more notably, Mike was known as a friend to everyone in this office that all of us enjoyed working and spending time with here.

We offer our condolences to the family and friends of Patrolman Hoffman and the entire Barnegat Township Police Department.

It is with great sadness that we announce the untimely death of Patrolman Alex Hoffman. Ptl. Hoffman died off-duty, doing what he always did-- working hard to provide for his wife and two children.

Ptl. Hoffman served with the BTPD for nearly 17 years, starting his career with us in May of 2003.

Ptl. Hoffman was always here to serve the Barnegat community however he could. During Superstorm Sandy in 2012, Alex donated his personally owned 2.5 ton truck to be used by the agency. That truck was used to conduct high-water rescues at the peak of the storm, saving lives.

Ptl. Hoffman also dedicated his time to obtaining surplus equipment for the agency-- procuring over $500,000 worth of high-water rescue and off-road vehicles for our Township, free of charge.

The BTPD appreciates the huge outpouring of support from the Barnegat community, and from our brothers and sisters in the law enforcement community.

Our thoughts are with Alex's wife, children, family, and friends as they navigate this incredibly difficult time.
