Allegheny Aquatic Alliance

Allegheny Aquatic Alliance Water Protection Water is our most precious resource. Without clean, safe water life on Earth is not possible. The time to act is now!

Locally and globally, our water is facing a crisis and if actions are not taken our world will be facing a major water shortage problem. In the Western PA area, our water is threatened by industrial waste, natural gas drilling, and acid mine drainage. These toxins flow directly into our rivers and streams and eventually into our drinking water.

Allegheny Aquatic Alliance lost a dear friend and a hard working volunteer today. Anthony “Mark” Baily will be very much missed. He loved the outdoors and our aquatic environment, a true Woodsmen! He helped us from cleaning the waterways, to building boat launches and maintaining them, helping with our community events, and mostly being a Great human being and Friend! Miss you brother!

So it’s that time of year again! The weather is getting beautiful and Memorial Day is this weekend. So just a heads up to everyone planning on floating the Connoquenessing on Sunday. We have been receiving many complaints about people parking in the street and on the neighbor’s property at Christians Launch off of Hartzell School Road. With the Pine Run area closing it’s going to create extra flow going down to Christians. We encourage people to car pool or use the Paddle Moor Co. shuttle service that day. We have had complaints from the police department and they have even proposed shutting down this Launch that Allegheny Aquatic Alliance work so hard to build. So let’s please be respectful of the neighbor’s and keep the area clean. Also do not park where it’s posted no parking! They will be towing that day. I hope everyone has a blast on the beautiful Connoquenessing Creek and is safe. Also for those wanting a great place to stay overnight please consider Fombell landing. They have tent camping and Rv spots with full hookups. It’s just right down the street from Christians landing. Thanks from all of us at Allegheny Aquatic Alliance.

Oil Spill on the Connoquenessing! Renfrew and Eckstein launches closed for cleanup. The only info we have from the DEP was that a oil spill in Butler happened. Now a company are in the process of containing the spill and cleaning it up. Such a shame these things keep happening. Please be careful in the waters this weekend. We will keep you posted with more info as we receive it.

So over Memorial Day weekend at Christian’s Landing kayak launch off of Hartzell School rd. We had people parking over by the mailboxes and the private lane on the right of the launch. That is Private property so you cannot park In front of the mailboxes or the lane. This is upsetting the neighbors of the launch very much and have contacted us and the authorities as well. If it continues people will be towed and ticketed. Or worst case scenario the launch will be closed. Most people are courteous and respect the neighborhood, but a few bad apples are ruining it for everyone else. So please if you see people parking incorrectly or being Disrespectful, say something to them. The other area that I was informed about is the Pine Run launch off of 588. That is not an Allegheny Aquatic Alliance launch nor is it a public launch at all. That is Private property! People were unloading boats on the road and parking illegally. The Police informed us of this issue. So please don’t park in the road or unload from the road. Most of all please pick up your trash. We clean all our launches with volunteers. They are not your maids or your parents. So help us keep these places clean and open for everyone’s enjoyment. Thanks again and enjoy another wonderful year on the beautiful Connoquenessing.
