As we sit around with family and friends today, let's not loose site on the men and women who gave the ultimate sacrifice for this great nation. It's by their actions that we're able to Honor them, Praise them, and pay the Respect and Dignity that they deserve
and earned. God Bless those fallen men and women. You will always be in our thoughts and prayers.

DAV Chapter 24 Freeburg was honored today by delivering bags of snacks to our veterans who reside at local Independent Living Homes in our area. Our members covered 6 different cities while doing this and although we weren't able to get to all of the facilities that we would have liked, we did make a huge impact to the Veterans that we met and the homes that allowed us to show our appreciation to the men and woman that served. Tuesday night, during the Smithton Village Board Meeting, Veterans Assistance Commission of St. Clair County Supervisor /DAV Member John Lawson was able to present Smithton resident David Von Der Heide his Korean War Ambassador for Peace Medal.
Sgt. Von Der Heide while serving, also received the Combat Infantry Badge, Korean War Service Medal w/1 Bronze Star, United Nations Service Medal-National Defense Service Medal & the Presidential Unit Citation-Good Conduct Medal.
Special Thank You to Smithton Village Board for allowing the Veterans Assistance Commission of St. Clair Co and the Disabled American Veterans (DAV) Chapter 24 of Freeburg for allowing us to recognize one of our own local veterans. We would also like to thank State Representative Kevin Schmidt and all the DAV Chapter 24 members who attending this special event. Thank you to everyone. We are excited Karen will be in the greater STL area over in Freeburg (O'Fallon, IL area) tomorrow! Veterans who would like to come try the Neurolumen out, stop on by between 2-7 pm. Thank you to Commander Dave Self (who was our very first STL Veteran to get a Neurolumen) and the DAV Forget Me Not Chapter for hosting her.

DAV Chapter 24 was honored to partner with Dona Rector from Stars of Honor to present Korean War Army Veteran, Sgt. David Von Der Heide his Quilt of Valor at their Disabled American Veterans (DAV) Chapter 24 office Saturday December 23, 2025. Also pictured with Sgt. Von Der Heide is his family, who came as far away as England and Wisconsin to witness the presentation.
