The Keepers of Coursen's Corners

The Keepers of Coursen's Corners The Keepers of Coursen's Corners was established in 2001 by a group of 7 women who wanted to save the Col. John Coursen Homestead from being torn down.

The group has grown over the years and we continuously work to restore the house to its original state. The Coursen House, built in 1805, was set to be torn down when the land that Lodestar Park was to be built on in Fredon, NJ was bought by the town. The Keeper's of Coursen's Corners came together to convince the town to leave the barn and farmhouse to the care of the Keepers. They succeeded and

now the care taking and restoration of the house is the responsibility of the women of the Keeper's of Coursen's Corners. We raise money to restore the house through fundraisers and events that educate the community about the history of the Coursen Homestead and the town of Fredon.

On January 26, 2022 “The Keepers” lost our “Other Keeper” John Richardson Sr. John was our biggest supporter, our Mr. Fixit, our liaison to the town, our historian, our friend, family. John will be forever missed by all that knew him. John’s longtime dedication to Fredon Township on the Township Committee, Fire Department, Ambulance, OEM Coordinator and as a Keeper of Coursen’s Corner is his legacy which will live on. John loved Fredon Township and studied it’s history and enjoyed sharing all he learned. John also loved his train set and had his village set up with Fredon landmarks. Our hearts and prayers are with John’s wife Ginny, one of our “original keepers”, and their family. Rest In Peace dear friend. ❤️

Get your Holiday Cameras Ready, Folks, and be sure to bring the children to Col. John Coursen’s Homestead, Saturday, November 20, 8 Stillwater Rd, Fredon, 11AM to 4 PM! The Keepers of Coursen’s Corners invite you to ignite your holiday spirit with pictures here for your 2021 Family Christmas Card!
Delight in the fully decorated 19th century formal Sitting Room, meeting with special guest, Santa, who looks a bit different as he was known in the 1800’s as “Father Christmas”. Our glowing fireplace and mantle bedecked with greens and bright Nutcracker figures are the perfect setting for happy picture memories for all ages. Children are invited to craft an ornament of their own to take home as an added treat. Adults may time travel through rooms which reflect years from 1805 through the 1930’s. This home was continuously lived in for over 150 years by the family and descendants who settled the land, farmed, and forged ties existing to this day in the community.
New this year is the “Coursen House Store”. Be sure to check out the handmade and unique items donated for sale by the Keepers. All donations and sales go to house upkeep. Rather than dues, Keeper members volunteer in some way year-round to caretake, plan, and assist however they are able. Think about joining us for 2022-- It’s fun!
A suggested minimum donation for Santa’s event is $5 per adult; $15-$20 per family. Thank you most sincerely for your support. We hope to see you soon and extend our very best wi shes for a happy and healthy holiday season!
