Today, we remember and honor our dear friend, Don Firebaugh.

Don was a huge part of the Fredericktown Optimist Club and played an instrumental role in helping start and grow the organization into what it is today. He was the kind of person who was always willing to lend a helping hand, offer guidance, or simply show up whenever he was needed.

Even in recent years, Don continued to attend meetings and support the club he cared so deeply about. His dedication, friendship, and unwavering commitment to serving our community made a lasting impact on all of us.

Don was more than a member of the Fredericktown Optimist Club—he was family. His kindness, generosity, and positive spirit touched countless lives and helped shape our program for generations to come.

He will be greatly missed, but his legacy will continue to live on through the club he helped build and the many people he inspired along the way.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Don's family and loved ones during this difficult time.
Thank you, Don, for everything you gave to our community and to the Fredericktown Optimist Club. We will never forget you.

Fredericktown Men's Soccer
Help Spread the word! The Fredericktown Blackcats Soccer Program is excited to host our 2026 Youth Soccer Camp for students entering 3rd-8th grade!

This will be a fun 3-day camp where high school soccer coaches and players come together to work with the youth of our community. Campers will have the opportunity to:
⚽ Learn soccer fundamentals and skills
⚽ Play games and compete
⚽ Improve footwork and ball control
⚽ Build confidence and teamwork
⚽ Have fun and meet new friends

Our high school players will be helping lead and coach throughout camp, making this a great opportunity for younger athletes to connect with and learn from Blackcats Soccer players they can look up to.

When people in Fredericktown hear “Optimist Club,” most think of our soccer program. Honestly, when my wife and I first got involved, that’s all we thought it was too.
Yes, soccer is our largest activity — but it’s so much more than that.
A few years ago, when we stepped in to help run the program, we had no idea what we were walking into. Since then, we’ve seen firsthand that this isn’t just about games on Saturday mornings. It’s about a community coming together to support and uplift our kids.
Every one of us has a job. We have busy schedules. We have families of our own. But that shouldn’t stop us from showing up for the children who need it most.
Some kids don’t have everything they need — let alone everything they want. The Optimist Club exists to help bridge that gap. Our focus has always been, and will always be, the kiddos and finding ways to better their lives however we can.
We’ve had many people say, “Let me know how I can help.” But when meeting time comes around, it’s often the same small group carrying the load.
If you’ve ever thought about getting involved — now’s the time.
You don’t need to know a thing about soccer. You just need a heart for kids and the willingness to help. There are so many ways to serve beyond the field.
This isn’t just a soccer program. It’s a community effort. And right now, we need more people to step in.
There is strength in numbers — and we could use yours.

We are so grateful to the Optimist Club for donating more than 900 boxes of cereal to support our Cat Pack Program! 🥣

Thanks to their generosity and our partnership with the Madison County Food Pantry, we are able to continue serving students and families in our community. We appreciate everyone who helps make a difference for our kids!

🥅⚽️🥅Today is our last games of the season. We've had such a great time with you all this year. Remember to get your medals from your coach and coaches get with Autum for team pictures today if you haven't already. 5th-8th age group parents remember to wear your good shoes today for our parents vs kids games. Game times are the same for Coach Duncan and Coach Orman as previously scheduled. Coach McDowell will be at 10am instead of previous scheduled times. Thank you all for everything we will see you all today.
