Furever Paws and Claws Rescue

Furever Paws and Claws Rescue The main goal of Furever Paws and Claws Rescue is to end the abandonment and suffering of animals in Madison County, MO. We have limited options at this point.

Have you ever wondered what we do and how it works? Rehoming: This is one of the more difficult things that we do. It starts when we are contacted by a person who, for whatever reason, needs/wants to get rid of their pet. The process is tedious and it takes time and patience. Unfortunately, at this time, we do not have our own shelter and during the winter, we have no where to keep pets until we c

an find them a new place to live. This often means that the pet needs to stay at their original home until we find something, which causes stress on the owners. We will not just "give" the pet to anyone, we look for larger rescue organizations who can provide food and shelter for the pet until their new family is found. Once we locate a shelter that can help, we, usually, do transport on our own and because we all have full time jobs, this can extend the process slightly. Finally, it takes longer to find shelters for larger pets, older pets, and pets who have not been fixed or are not up to date on shots. Rescuing: This can involve a number of things, including: finding abandoned dogs, taking calls/messages about abused dogs, and searching Facebook for dogs on buy/sell/trade pages. When we have a dog the same process of rehoming begins. However, we typically need to shelter these pets because they have no where else to go. They either stay with one of us or we board them at the vet (which does have an expense). Once a shelter/ rescue is located we transport the pet so they can find their forever family. Working with larger rescues and shelters: Sadly, we do not have a shelter at this point but it is one of our longterm goals. This means that we contact other rescues in hopes that they can take the pet. We do extensive research on the rescues/shelters before we give them an animal. Once they have the animal they do extensive research before adopting out any pets. This includes: home visits, vet references, an adoption fee, and much more depending on the rescue organization. Fundraising: Like everything else, rescuing animals costs money. We try to host different fundraisers in order to get this necessary funding.

Update on Annie Scoops:

As many of you know, we rescued Annie Scoops from the CMR and Scoops area. We believe she was on her own for 1-2 years. She has now been fully vetted and is in a foster home. Her vet thinks she’s 3-4 years old and she weighs 29 pounds. She is still very skittish but she does like the other dogs in the home. She is walking on a leash very well and potty training is going good. We will continue working with Annie and believe we will be able to find her forever home.
