Here is an excellent selection of quotes from a wonderful artist—one whose work we admire, but whose thoughts on that work we appreciate just as much: “I hold two famous quotes to be fundamental to the proper practice of my art:

‘Lineage does not ennoble the individual; it is the individual who ennobles the lineage.’ — Dante Alighieri, *Convivio*.

‘If a coat of arms proves the nobility of the name one bears, it is nobility of heart that renders one worthy to bear it.’ — Stanislas I, King of Poland.

It is upon the unambiguous message of these two quotes that I believe it essential to build one’s arms *ex nihilo*—or to display one’s family arms—regardless of the medium”

Brothers and Sisters of the Orders,

In the sacred joy of the Nativity of Our Lord, I extend to you my solemn greetings and fraternal regard. At this blessed season, we are called once more to contemplate the mystery of humility, obedience, and divine charity made manifest in the birth of Christ.

May the light of the Incarnation strengthen our resolve to live according to the highest ideals of our vocation—faithfulness to God, service to one another, and steadfast commitment to honor, charity, and truth. In unity and brotherhood, we continue the noble work entrusted to us, bearing witness through both word and deed.

I offer my sincere gratitude for your devotion to the Orders and for the sacrifices you make in service to others. May this holy season bring peace to your households, clarity to your purpose, and renewed strength for the year to come.

May Almighty God bless you and keep you under His protection, now and always.

Ad Gloriam Dei, in fide et caritate.
(For the Glory of God, in faith and charity.)

Given this Christmas season, in the Year of Our Lord Two Thousand and Twenty-Five,

With solemn respect and fraternal devotion,
H.R.H Douglas Bailey, Grand Duke, and chief of clan

🌾⚔️ Calling the Noble of Heart in Iowa ⚔️🌾

In the heartland, where the soil is rich and the faith runs deep, a new generation of knights is rising—not with swords, but with servant hearts, strong hands, and unshakable values.

To be a knight today is not about titles or pageantry—it’s about courage, honor, and a commitment to serve God, family, and community. Whether in boots or armor, in fields or sanctuaries, we are called to stand for truth, protect the weak, and build a legacy of righteousness.

🛡️ "Put on the whole armor of God…" – Ephesians 6:11

The Order awaits those bold enough to answer.

Are you ready to rise?

About the Orders of the House of Bailey

The Orders administered under the House of Bailey represent a living tradition of Christian chivalry, dynastic heritage, and service-oriented honor. These Orders were founded and legitimized through proper historical and ecclesiastical channels—most notably by the Orthodox Church in America, under the authority of a recognized Patriarch, and with the endorsement of a reigning monarch.

Each Order functions within the classical framework of knighthood, with clearly defined grades, ceremonial practices, and heraldic structure. The grant of arms and the Orders themselves are officially registered within a sovereign nation, providing legal and cultural anchorage to their status.

While distinct from state-sponsored honors, these Orders are established in accordance with recognized chivalric tradition and ecclesiastical law, and their legitimacy is affirmed by their clear line of authority, formal investitures, and dynastic continuity.

The Orders of the House of Bailey are not self-styled; they are authentic embodiments of Christian and dynastic knighthood, offering a meaningful path of service, spiritual commitment, and cultural identity in the modern world.

Matthew 28:1-8 NRSV
[1] After the sabbath, as the first day of the week was dawning, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to see the tomb. [2] And suddenly there was a great earthquake; for an angel of the Lord, descending from heaven, came and rolled back the stone and sat on it. [3] His appearance was like lightning, and his clothing white as snow. [4] For fear of him the guards shook and became like dead men. [5] But the angel said to the women, “Do not be afraid; I know that you are looking for Jesus who was crucified. [6] He is not here; for he has been raised, as he said. Come, see the place where he lay. [7] Then go quickly and tell his disciples, ‘He has been raised from the dead, and indeed he is going ahead of you to Galilee; there you will see him.’ This is my message for you.” [8] So they left the tomb quickly with fear and great joy, and ran to tell his disciples.

I wanted to introduce the leader of our Order and so I asked HRH to write an introduction. The following is from His Royal Highness:

His Royal Highness Douglas Buchanan Bailey,
Grand Duke of Saint Cyriacus,
Sovereign Grand Master of the Orders,
Chief of Clan Bailey (Ireland),
Commander General of The Bailey Fencibles.

Greetings,

As you may know, my journey has been one of profound transformation, from humble beginnings to the weighty responsibilities I now bear. It is with deep humility that I continue the sacred work entrusted to me by the late Metropolitan and First Hierarch of the Russian Orthodox Church in America, the 10th Patriarch of the Holy Eastern Orthodox Catholic and Apostolic Church of North America.

I am equally mindful of the honors bestowed upon me by His Majesty The Omukama (King) Solomon Iguru I, grandson of King Chwa II Kabalega, King of the Constitutionally Restored Constituent Kingdom of Bunyoro-Kitara of the Republic of Uganda. Additionally, I am deeply honored by the trust placed in me by the members of Clan Bailey International, who have conferred upon me significant responsibilities.

To the new and prospective members of our Orders or The Bailey Fencibles, I wish to share my vision for the future.

The Knights of the True Cross and the Dynastic Order of the Green Cross differ primarily in their expression of chivalry—one rooted in historical Christian tradition, the other celebrating Celtic heritage. Yet, they remain sister Orders, united in purpose and working harmoniously toward our shared goals: advancing education and aiding those in need.

My vision is to establish active priories across the Americas—North, Central, and South. To achieve this, we must begin with attainable steps, engaging our dedicated knights in meaningful action.

In the short term, I aim to establish multiple priories across the United States, fostering a brotherhood of chivalry. These priories will convene monthly to organize events that raise funds for our mission, ensuring a lasting and transformative impact on those we serve.
An Invitation to True Knighthood

Unlike those who treat nobility as an exclusive privilege, guarded behind gates of prestige, we extend both a hand out—to lift the worthy—and a hand up, guiding those called to the higher ideals of chivalry. Ours is not a ladder to be pulled away, but a path to be walked together.

True knighthood is not measured by birthright or wealth, but by character, service, and an unwavering commitment to justice and compassion. If you carry these virtues within you, then you are precisely whom we seek to welcome—not as a claimant to hollow titles, but as a fellow steward of this sacred tradition.

This is an explanation of a coat of arms, or armorial bearing:

The "escutcheon" is just the shield itself.

The "crest" is the helmet and symbol on its top.

The "mantling" is the flowing fabric proceeding from the crest and surrounding the shield.

The "motto" is the ribbon with lettering below the escutcheon (shield).

The "achievement" is on a ribbon behind and honor of the order under the motto.

The entire piece (escutcheon, mantling, crest and motto) is the “armorial bearings” of coat of arms or just arms. In this case, armorial bearings with achievement (the honor attached).

How this is registered in formal parlance:

Escutcheon: Azure, on a chevron Argent three Orthodox crosses Gules fimbriated Sable and Or, between three roses of the Second, barbed and seeded proper

Crest: From a torse Argent and Azure, a dexter arm in armour embowed, the hand grasping an Orthodox cross Gules fimbriated Or
