Here is an excellent selection of quotes from a wonderful artist—one whose work we admire, but whose thoughts on that work we appreciate just as much: “I hold two famous quotes to be fundamental to the proper practice of my art:
‘Lineage does not ennoble the individual; it is the individual who ennobles the lineage.’ — Dante Alighieri, *Convivio*.
‘If a coat of arms proves the nobility of the name one bears, it is nobility of heart that renders one worthy to bear it.’ — Stanislas I, King of Poland.
It is upon the unambiguous message of these two quotes that I believe it essential to build one’s arms *ex nihilo*—or to display one’s family arms—regardless of the medium”
