We are so, SO happy to see this update on Sonny’s new life. This kind boy deserves the world, and through the work of a team of caring humans with the right intentions and actions, he is just starting to get that world. We look forward to hearing more about Sonny’s happy tale as he continues to grow! Thank you to Virginia Equine Welfare Society (VEWS), Equine Welfare Society, and Sonny’s new home ♥️

✨ Sonny Update! ✨

It’s been three months since Sonny was adopted, and he’s really blossoming in his new home. He’s finding his place in the gelding field and has made plenty of new buddies thanks to slow, thoughtful introductions.

His first farrier visit went without a hitch—a little wiggly at first, but he settled and did great.

Sonny has also adjusted beautifully to his new Kalm and Easy feed with an essential K supplement, plus plenty of forage. His adopter transitioned him gradually, and he’s doing wonderfully.

Best of all, his family says he’s such a sweet boy and they absolutely adore him.

💛 And here he is at his first show, shining in a walk–trot class.

Yesterday, we shared a video of our golden girls all huddled together under the shelter while the rain came down.

Today it’s still raining but that same herd has a completely different plan. They’re out moving around, grazing, and taking advantage of the salt lick.

Sometimes they want to stand under shelter and stay dry. Other times, they’d rather be out moving, grazing, and doing what horses naturally do, even when it’s raining.

We believe in providing as much turnout and freedom of movement as possible, while giving our herd access to shelter and the ability to make choices based on what they need and want in that moment.

Listen in for some insight into our field and shelter philosophy, or just enjoy Babe, Emme, Lizbeth and Princesse using their shelter to hang out together in the drizzle. Happy Saturday!

A few weeks ago, RES hosted members of Project Enhancement Corporation, MELE, and Strong Gate for a volunteer day onsite. The team had beautiful weather and worked hard cleaning out our hay barn for the winter and painting fences. The colder months bring bales and bales of hay for our herd, and fences are part of the constant maintenance on any farm! RES is so grateful for members of our community who think of us for volunteer days, to get into the fresh air and spend time with each other and some great animals. Thanks for everything, team PEC!
