🌿✨ Gratitude Spotlight: Karen Brown! ✨🌿

Karen Brown is turning her deep love for nature into powerful action! Growing up in Southern Maryland, she spent more time exploring the woods behind her home than in her own bedroom. After working in politics, government, and law in Washington D.C. and Portland, Karen’s passion for protecting the natural world led her to learn about the 5 Gyres and join the fight against microplastics.

Today, Karen is the founder of PLEA (Plastic Litter Education Advocates) - a nonprofit dedicated to teaching students from Pre-K through grade 12+ about the dangers of plastic litter and how we can all be part of the solution. She believes we should care for the Earth just as we care for ourselves, and she’s inspiring the next generation to do the same. 🌎💙

Thank you, Karen, for being a true advocate for our planet! 🙌✨

'Undergrad in poly sci - concentration in political behavior & psychology; 'studied foreign policy, nuclear terrorism and fiscal management. 'Conservative on national security and fiscal responsibility; and liberal on education and the environment - I am a moderate! For the life of me, I cannot surmise why the President authorized spending millions in federal funding for ocean cleanup in his first term (yes!), and then turned around and signed an executive order to bring back plastic straws to federal buildings in his second term (?) 'Declaring, "bring back plastic" (What!) What planet am I living on? The new paper straws are absolutely fine - no issues. They’re not like the paper straws we used in the 1960/70's - which were fine anyway. The new paper/cardboard straws are sturdy - plus you don't have to put toxic-plastic in your mouth. Let me guess: Some on the right can't stand some on the left - so they go rogue on combatting environmental movements, good Lord people, can we do anything right? Please start making sense everyone. Thank you!

Attention Virginia Beach! This entangled harbor seal was spotted at 77th Street this morning (1/27) with plastic around its next. The seal went back into the water before rescuers arrived.
