🌳 Pruning is far more than just cutting branches — it's a craft refined through years of hands-on practice and careful observation. Tree Fredericksburg board member and ISA Board Certified Master Arborist Michael Blashford shares insights from over a decade of work planting and pruning trees right here in Fredericksburg, exploring what it truly takes to do the job well and why the long-term health of our urban trees depends on it.

Tomorrow! Learn how to properly prune trees. Here are a few reasons pruning matters:

1. It removes dead, diseased, or damaged branches before decay spreads to the rest of the tree.

2. It eliminates pest habitats that thrive in dead or weakened wood

3. It prevents weak, heavy, or dead branches from falling on people, structures, or vehicles.

4. It removes old, unproductive wood to redirect energy to fruiting wood.

The best time to prune most trees is late winter to early spring, just before new growth begins but dead or hazardous branches should always be removed promptly regardless of season.

Learn more tomorrow.
