SPCA of Fredericksburg

SPCA of Fredericksburg The Fredericksburg SPCA is a life-saving, humane organization. The Fredericksburg SPCA is not a municipal shelter.

The Fredericksburg Regional SPCA is a non-profit, lifesaving humane organization dedicated to the principle that every life is unique and worthy of protection. As a local leader in humane care and education, the Fredericksburg SPCA's mission is to tackle the problem of pet overpopulation through education, adoption, rehabilitation, and spay/neuter. The organization saves the lives of many homeless

animals each year and cares for approximately 250 cats and dogs daily. We are not affiliated with any other animal welfare organization. We are an independent shelter that must raise 100% of our annual budget.

Bun Bun's story is a reminder of what patience, teamwork, and foster care can do.

When our friends at the Stafford County Animal Shelter asked if we could help a *very* stressed cat, we knew Bun Bun needed out. A new bombshell had entered our villa… and she was ✨anxious✨. Shelters are chaotic and unnatural for pets: most cats are not feral, they are just frightened. The level of fear/anxiety/stress (FAS) they experience can bring out a cats fight or flight pretty significantly and Bun Bun was ready to skippity-pap her way out of here. One of our experienced cat-savvy fosters stepped up to give Bun Bun exactly the space, time, and care she needed to come back to her true self.

In just two days, Bun Bun began to show everyone who she really is. She went from hiding and hissing to asking for pets, batting her little mouse toys around, and chatting incessantly with her foster mom. Now she is an affectionate, loving cat who enjoys head scratches, attention, and spending time with her people.

Bun Bun's transformation happened because animal welfare is a team effort. From the staff at the Stafford County Animal Shelter, to our team, to her amazing foster home, and to her future adopter…every person played a role in saving her life.

Bun Bun is now available for adoption in foster care. To schedule a meet and greet or if you're inspired by Bun Bun's journey, we're always looking for compassionate foster volunteers to help the next scared cat discover their confidence: email [email protected].

A bag of pet food can make a big difference.

Our PETS Pantry (People Empowered Through Support) provides free supplemental pet food to families who need a little extra help. By supporting pet owners through difficult times, we can help keep beloved pets at home where they belong and reduce the number of animals entering already full shelters.

If you'd like to help, consider donating pet food to our PETS Pantry. Your generosity helps keep families together, one meal at a time. Donations can be dropped off at our doors at 10819 Courthouse Rd, or with the click of a button online at: https://a.co/0fgvFGdb. Thank you for helping our community on !

The cats have spoken.

Join us on Friday, August 8, to meet our adoptable cats and celebrate with sponsored adoptions! These fine felines have agreed to make one small exception and allow the dogs to join the celebration with sponsored adoptions too, thanks to the ASPCA and their nationwide campaign, , which helps more animals find new families.

The cats expect everyone to remember whose celebration it is, but they are willing to share the attention for one day. Whether you are looking to adopt a new companion or sponsor a deserving dog, this is the perfect opportunity to make a difference.

Every time an animal is adopted or fostered, space and resources are freed up so shelters can provide care for even more animals. When we help one, we help many. That’s The Rescue Effect.

Check out some of our animals who are available for adoption and help us give even more pets a chance at a new beginning by visiting fredspca.org/adopt.

Ernest is a fun-loving, four-year-old sweetheart with a big personality and an even bigger heart. This social boy is always ready for his next adventure, whether it's exploring new trails, strolling through town, or making new friends along the way. One of his favorite things is using his nose to investigate every interesting scent he comes across—and if the outing ends with a pup cup or an ice cream treat, that's the perfect bonus in Ernest's book!

Ernest has participated in many Adventure Tails outings and has been a wonderful ambassador wherever he goes. He loves meeting new people, happily soaking up attention and sharing his signature hugs with everyone he meets. He's also spent time with campers at our onsite programs and has shown just how gentle and affectionate he can be.

Ernest does well with kids and thrives on being included in family activities. He's the kind of dog who wants to be part of the fun, whether that's joining you for a weekend adventure, relaxing after a walk, or simply enjoying quality time with his favorite people. If you're looking for a loyal, affectionate companion who's always up for making memories together, Ernest is ready to be your adventure buddy. He’s sponsored by the Fredericksburg Nationals as this month’s Most Valuable Pet (MVP)!
