๐Ÿฅซ Community Spotlight: Fredericksburg Regional Food Bank๐Ÿฅซ

No one should have to wonder where their next meal is coming from.

For decades, the Fredericksburg Regional Food Bank has worked tirelessly to fight hunger throughout our region, serving families, children, seniors, veterans, and individuals facing difficult times. Through food assistance programs, mobile distributions, community partnerships, and volunteer efforts, they help ensure that thousands of our neighbors have access to nutritious meals and essential support.

What makes the Fredericksburg Regional Food Bank so special is that their mission goes beyond providing food. They bring hope, dignity, and compassion to people throughout the City of Fredericksburg, Stafford, Spotsylvania, Caroline, King George, and surrounding communities.

At Fredericksburg Elks #875, we are proud supporters of the Fredericksburg Regional Food Bank and the incredible impact they make every day. Their work reminds us that when a community comes together, we can accomplish amazing things and ensure that no one faces hunger alone.

The 2026 Virginia Elks Association State Convention in Harrisonburg has come to a close, and Fredericksburg Elks #875 once again demonstrated what can be accomplished when dedicated members come together in service to Elkdom.

The meeting was started by Harrisonburg Mayor Deanna Reed with a warm welcome to the Virginia Elks Association

This year's convention was especially meaningful as we welcomed Grand Exalted Ruler Bryan Klatt and First Lady Susan Klatt during the 44th state visit of his term. Their presence helped make an already outstanding convention even more memorable.

Fredericksburg Elks #875 was proud to host what we believe was an exceptional hospitality room. This effort was led by Exalted Ruler Sheila Jones, Leading Knight Lisa Baker, Lecturing Knight Gil Taylor, Secretary Michelle Henshaw, Lounge Manager KT Jones, and countless members working behind the scenes whose teamwork and dedication showcased the very best of our lodge. We also want to give thanks to the other lodges who hosted rooms for all of the Virginia Elks! Loudoun Elks Lodge 2406, Danville Elks Lodge #227 - Danville VA, and Hampton VA Elks Lodge #366

Our State Sponsor Ron Hicks and Past First Lady Nancy Hicks once again demonstrated their love of Elkdom and their unwavering support of Fredericksburg. No matter where they travel across Virginia, they always carry a piece of Fredericksburg with them.

We were also thrilled to see Past Grand Esteemed Leading Knight and Past State President Ray Dameron and Past First Lady Elizabeth Dameron receive recognition for their incredible work with the Parade of Heroes. Through their efforts, 148 veterans have had the opportunity to participate in this life-changing journey and receive the recognition they so richly deserve for their service to our nation.

Fredericksburg was further represented during the Memorial Service as Jason "Tee" Hicks, newly installed as Third Vice President of the Virginia Elks Association, performed the moving rendition of "The Vacant Chair" and lit the candle honoring members from the Central District who have passed on to the Grand Lodge Above.

Exalted Ruler Sheila Jones also participated in the Exalted Ruler Walk, helping raise funds for the Virginia Elks Charitable Trust. Through the generosity of lodges across the Commonwealth, more than $27,000 was contributed this year to support the charitable programs that make a difference in communities throughout Virginia.

Congratulations are also in order for Rose Burrus, who received a special Veterans Service Award in recognition of her dedication and commitment to those who have served our country.

On a personal note, I, Linnie Baker, was honored to be installed as the Virginia State Parliamentarian and look forward to serving the Association in this new role.

The convention also marked the conclusion of a remarkable year of leadership by State President Lynn Rutherford-Snow. After traveling more than 15,000 miles across Virginia in service to our lodges and members, she was finally able to take a well-deserved breath and enjoy the culmination of a successful term.

We also congratulate Bob Caley on his installation as the new Virginia State President and wish him great success as he begins his year of service to the Virginia Elks Association.

As the convention ends and we return home, we do so with pride in what Fredericksburg Elks #875 continues to accomplish, gratitude for the friendships we share throughout Virginia, and excitement for what lies ahead. Elkdom remains strong because of members who continue to answer the call to serve others.

Special thank you to ER Sheila Jones for all of the wonderful pictures from the event.

๐ŸŽฃ COMMUNITY SPOTLIGHT: Project Healing Waters Fredericksburg, VA ๐ŸŽฃ

Sometimes the best healing doesn't happen in a doctor's office. Sometimes it happens standing beside a river, sharing a conversation, learning a new skill, and finding support from people who understand your journey.

This week, Fredericksburg Elks #875 is proud to spotlight Project Healing Waters, an organization dedicated to helping veterans through the therapeutic benefits of fly fishing, camaraderie, and connection.

Project Healing Waters provides veterans with opportunities to build friendships, gain confidence, spend time outdoors, and discover a community that understands the challenges many face after military service. Through fly fishing and related activities, participants find more than a hobbyโ€”they find support, purpose, and lasting relationships.

What makes this partnership especially meaningful is the connection to the Virginia Elks Youth Camp VEYC. Project Healing Waters volunteers have shared their knowledge and passion for fly fishing with campers, helping teach outdoor skills while creating meaningful interactions between veterans and the next generation.

To us, this is what community is all about.

People helping people.

Veterans helping kids.

Two different communities coming together to share experiences, build friendships, and make a positive impact on one another.

These moments are about more than fishing. They are about mentorship, patience, confidence, respect, and the simple act of spending time together.

Thank you to the volunteers, mentors, and participants who continue making a difference in the lives of veterans and young people throughout our community.

What does it mean to be an Elk?

Sometimes it means giving up a Sunday morning to help others.

Today, Fredericksburg Elks #875 had the opportunity to support Wright's Chapel Mobile Ministry in Caroline County with a donation and volunteer assistance. Located next to Wright's Chapel United Methodist Church

What I witnessed was much more than a food distribution.

I saw volunteers stocking shelves, helping families select groceries, sharing conversations, and treating every person who walked through the door with kindness and respect. There were no judgmentsโ€”just neighbors helping neighbors.

Most importantly, I saw 29 families served in a way that preserved their dignity. Families were able to shop for groceries rather than simply receive a box of food. A fresh meal was prepared for everyone in attendance, and those families could enjoy it there or take it home.

This is what community service looks like.

It isn't always a big ceremony, a check presentation, or a photo opportunity. Sometimes it's carrying groceries, stocking shelves, serving lunch, and making sure someone knows they matter.

We are proud to support organizations like Wright's Chapel Mobile Food Ministry because they are making a real difference in the lives of local families every single week.

If you've ever wondered what the Elks are all about, the answer is simple:

We invest in our communities. We support those who serve others. We show up.

Thank you to the volunteers of Wright's Chapel for allowing us to be a small part of your mission today.

Fredericksburg Elks #875 supports veterans, youth programs, local charities, and community organizations throughout the Fredericksburg region through volunteerism, partnerships, charitable giving, and service.

๐Ÿ Rappahannock Regional Soap Box Derby RACE DAY WRAP-UP ๐Ÿ

Today, our kids did the best they could.

While none of our drivers were able to advance beyond the Top 8 bracket today, they represented Fredericksburg Elks #875 with determination, sportsmanship, and courage throughout the day.

Life's lesson today is simple:

โ€ข You cannot always win.
โ€ข Keep your head up.
โ€ข Learn.
โ€ข Improve.
โ€ข Try again.

Success is built through perseverance.

Congratulations to our drivers:

๐ŸŽ๏ธ Grayson Shegogue
๐ŸŽ๏ธ Louise Sable
๐ŸŽ๏ธ Fletcher Sable
๐ŸŽ๏ธ Nolan Sable
๐ŸŽ๏ธ Aiyanna Barnes

The Soap Box Derby is about so much more than racing. It teaches preparation, patience, responsibility, teamwork, and how to handle both victories and setbacks with grace. These are lessons that will stay with our racers long after today's results are forgotten.

To our drivers: Hold your heads high.

WE'RE PROUD OF YOU!

And if you're willing to climb back into a derby car, Fredericksburg Elks #875 will have seats available next year.

See you at the starting line next year. ๐Ÿ
