Our History

Robert Moreau is the Director for the Virginia Chapter of the Fire Fighter Cancer Foundation (FFCF). He took over this role in early 2014 while undergoing treatments for Papillary Thyroid Cancer. At the time of his diagnosis, Robert was 25 years old and cancer was not on his agenda. His diagnosis came with a lot of questions and a lot of unknowns. The FFCF provided the assistance and education Robert needed to make changes for himself, his department, and those around him. As any non-profit organization knows, starting from the ground up is difficult. Robert reached out to a foundation that was created in memory of a Prince William County Firefighter who fought a courageous battle with cancer. The Johnny Thomas Foundation has worked for years to make change in Prince William County and provided direct assistance to Robert in his time of need. In 2017, the two foundations partnered and continue to focus their efforts to reduce carcinogen exposure, educate firefighters and leadership, support research initiatives, and improve the quality of life for those battling cancer. The Virginia Chapter of the FFCF was formed in memory of Jonny Thomas so that his loving spirit will forever touch the lives of those impacted with cancer in the fire service.
