Military Women’s History Week | The Face of Courage
March 19 - 25
For generations, we’ve been taught what courage looks like.
We know the stories.
We see the statues.
We read the names in our history books.
But too often we forget: women are also the face of courage.
They were there when our Nation was still only an idea—carrying messages through enemy lines, disguising themselves to fight, tending the wounded, and defending the cause of freedom.
They were there in field hospitals saving lives.
In code rooms securing victory.
In cockpits, command posts, and on the front lines.
Generation after generation—sometimes recognized, often overlooked—always serving.
And sometimes, giving everything.
Women’s History Month and Military Women's History Week exist because too many of these stories were never fully told—too many acts of courage pushed to the margins of history or left out entirely.
Every day of the year at the Military Women’s Memorial, we work to change that.
When a veteran registers her story.
When a family discovers a mother’s or grandmother’s service.
When a young girl learns that women have been defending our Nation for more than 250 years.
History becomes fuller.
The picture becomes clearer.
And courage finally looks the way it always should—
human… like you, like me, like us.
Honoring women’s military history is a mission we carry forward every day of the year. But during Women’s History Month, when our Nation turns its focus to the invaluable contributions women have made throughout our history, we are grateful for this opportunity to share the stories of women who served.
Every moment we are able to highlight their service helps ensure their courage, sacrifice, and legacy are seen, remembered, and honored. ❤️
