Spaying and Neutering is vitally important to your pet's health

Dogs prior to their first heat cycle have a very low risk, estimated at 0.5%, of developing in their lifetime. The risk of developing mammary tumors has been estimated to increase to 8% in female dogs spayed after their first heat cycle and to 26% in dogs spayed any time after their second cycle.

The major involved in a dog involve the prostate gland. As dogs age, the prostate will gradually enlarge. This is known as benign prostate hyperplasia or BPH (think Flomax commercials). The prostate under the influence of testosterone is also predisposed to infection. This is an extremely painful and sometime life-threatening condition which is not likely to resolve without neutering and often invasive surgery.

If you need to have your pet /neutered, please call at 540-371-7729. The hospital offers spay/neuter packages and it also offers laser surgery.

Our Story

Saint Seton’s Orphaned Animals is a 501(c)(3) animal welfare charity based in Stafford County, VA. Our mission is to reduce economic euthanasia of companion animals and pet overpopulation. We provide pro bono veterinary care to low income pet parents, spay/neuter vouchers and pet food. We also operate a, “Meals on Wheels 4 Petz” program for pet parents in need. This support helps to keep companion animals in their homes and out of our shelters.

Pogo’s pro bono surgery helped the shelter find him a home.
