The Community Foundation of the Rappahannock River Region We are devoted advocates for the vitality and well-being of the Rappahannock River region.

Our mission is to build a flourishing philanthropic community in Caroline, King George, Spotsylvania and Stafford Counties and the City of Fredericksburg, Virginia. A community foundation is a vehicle for people of all means to make a lasting difference in the community causes they care about. Our central purpose is to serve the needs and philanthropic aims of donors who wish to better their community, now and in the future. We do this by providing donors with flexible, efficient, and tax-effective ways to ensure their charitable giving achieves the greatest possible impact. Because our region’s civic leaders choose the Community Foundation as the most effective way to actively champion the causes they care about, we are actively growing a vital set of resources that will benefit the Rappahannock River region in perpetuity.

2025 RECIPIENT IMPACT UPDATE
Central Rappahannock River Habitat for Humanity was a 2025 recipient of the Amazon Rappahannock Region Community Fund. Here’s a look at how grant funding is supporting its Homebuyer Program and expanding pathways to affordable homeownership.
Nine homes are being built in South Village as part of a mixed-income neighborhood. Seven are part of Habitat’s USDA 523 Mutual Self-Help Housing Program, while another is part of a new modular building pilot designed for teachers and first responders.
The ninth home brings together housing, education and community partnership. Working with Caroline County High School’s CTE program, students are helping build a home that is nearing completion and will be sold to a local disabled veteran.
All nine homes will be sold to households earning below 80% of Area Median Income, with nearly 90% serving households at or below 60%. By combining Habitat’s traditional sweat-equity model with new approaches to building and financing, the organization is working to increase the number of local families and essential workers who can access affordable homeownership.

2025 RECIPIENT IMPACT UPDATE 🌱
The Tri-County/City Soil & Water Conservation District was a 2025 recipient of the Amazon Rappahannock Region Community Fund. Here’s a look at how grant funding supported the 2025 Agricultural Field Trips at the Rappahannock Education Farm.
First-grade students headed to the farm for a hands-on introduction to agriculture and the connection between food, the environment and their communities. Students learned where their food comes from, read about the farm-to-table process and explored how pollution can affect the places where they live.
They also got their hands in the soil, planting more than 180 vegetable plants as part of the experience!
Grant funding helped cover transportation costs for participating schools, reducing a key barrier to bringing students directly to the farm. Through partnerships with local Virginia Cooperative Extension offices and elementary schools, the program is helping plant the seeds of agricultural knowledge at an early age.

Every student deserves the opportunity to participate. 🏀⚾
The Togie Fund honors Charles “Togie” Wayne Payne Sr., a longtime Stafford County community member whose passion for youth, sports and helping others continues through this fund.
The Togie Fund provides grants that help students access necessary equipment and participate in recreational programs, regardless of their family’s financial circumstances.
It’s a lasting way to carry forward Togie’s belief in giving others a helping hand and creating opportunities for young people in the community he loved.

Strong leadership means planning for the future!

At our October 8 Nonprofit Leadership Workshop Series (NPLWS), nonprofit leaders explored Succession Planning: Building Leadership for the Future with Amy Nisenson, Nonprofit Consultant and Owner of Nisenson Consulting.

Participants learned practical strategies to protect organizational knowledge, preserve critical relationships, reduce risk, and prepare the next generation of leaders. Thank you to Amy and everyone who joined us for this important conversation!
