What a QUACK-tacular day!! As many of you saw, some of the 3000 ducks from the duck race escaped the initial boundary net. However, our team of superhero volunteers corralled and rescued them from becoming litter in our gorgeous river.

🍂 Happy Riparian Buffer Month!

Riparian buffers are strips of trees, shrubs, and native plants along streams and rivers. They act as a natural filter, slowing runoff, reducing erosion, trapping pollutants, keeping water cool, and providing wildlife habitat.

For the Rappahannock River watershed, healthy buffers help keep our waterways clean from headwaters to the Chesapeake Bay.

🌱 Want to help? Collect native seeds! Through our Today’s Seeds, Tomorrow’s Trees program, you can collect native seeds that help grow the trees and plants needed for riparian buffers throughout our watershed. Our Rappahannock Conservation Nursery and the Virginia Department of Forestry collect these seeds and nurture them until they’re ready to be planted.

Healthy trees = healthy streams = a healthier Rappahannock River and Chesapeake Bay!

🌱 If you haven't heard... Tomorrow's Trees is back!!

Join us this fall for a family-friendly acorn-driven scavenger hunt to collect native tree seeds from your community! This is a volunteer opportunity you can do anywhere, anytime and with anyone! Your donated seeds will be nurtured in our nursery and eventually planted in tree buffer zones to keep our streams clean and healthy.

REMINDER: Quality over quantity is important! Make sure to check for mold and bugs before dropping them off 👀

Last day to drop off seeds is Oct 31st 🌳
