COAR UMW Community Outreach and Resources. We're here to connect Mary Washington students with each other and the greater Fredericksburg community through service.

COAR is your link to getting involved with lots of great volunteer opportunities throughout the school year. Our student lead programs cover a wide variety of social interests, from tutoring children, to environmental awareness, combating hunger, and serving the homeless. Throughout the school year, COAR also organizes several events on and off campus to create an opportunity for students to help

better the community. Some of these events include Into the Streets, Pumpkin Palooza (an on-campus trick-or-treat for area kids), a Gift Box Drive for Head Start, a Variety show and silent auction to raise money for Alternative Breaks, Spring Forward Festival (an Easter egg hunt and crafts for area children), and Pay it Forward Week. Each event is fun and unique for students and the general public. All events require help from our COAR Events Crew, the UMW campus community, and the general public to make each successful!

We wanted to thank the UMW community for helping fill over 300 gift boxes this year! All boxes are delivered to the local Head Start programs in Fredericksburg City and Spotsylvania County. This process couldn’t happen without you, our wonderful community members. Each box is checked out by a UMW student, faculty or staff member, and filled with toys, hats, books and more. COAR students then package the boxes for pick up (this year Ms. Walker and her family picked up the boxes) and then visit the local Head Start/Preschool Programs to hand out the boxes (we may have sung Jingle Bells a few times). Thank you to everyone who supported this community project!

If you still have not returned your box, please be sure to stop by the CCE (UC, Suite 320) and drop them off before the end of the week! We will be delivering the boxes to children apart of the Head Start program next Monday! 🎁
