Eagle Scouts Cycling Across America

Eagle Scouts Cycling Across America Scouts from BSA Troop 165 intend to cycle from the Pacific Ocean to Atlantic.

Young men from Boy Scout Troop 165 intend to cycle from the Pacific to the Atlantic Ocean to demonstrate how the application of Scouting principles encourage healthy living and self-discipline as well as an appreciation for exercise and the outdoors. Specifically, we are going to ride from San Francisco, CA to
Virginia Beach, VA.

“Our mission is to demonstrate how motivated young men, committed

to the values of exercise and healthy living, practice the twelve points of the Boy Scout Law while challenging themselves to reach new heights.”

We live in a time when sitting inside playing video games has become the accepted standard of our youth. The scouts of Troop 165 want to show the nation that there are still those who value the outdoors and recognize the importance of exercise and self-discipline. All of the men going on the ride have pledged to earn the rank of Eagle Scout before the start of the ride. We encourage any other Eagle Scouts who believe in our cause to ride with us or a portion of the ride with us.

Sgt. Peck was an integral part of the early stages of training for the ESCAA 2014 team. Please help support his GoFundMe campaign.

In 2007, Sgt. John Peck, formerly of Antioch, IL, was serving in Al Anbar province, Iraq when he was first wounded. After a daylong patrol searching for Taliban, receiving small arms fire, finding a cache of HME (Home Made Explosives), waiting for his unit's EOD team, it was time to go back to ba...

The stats are in. We cycled over 2,600 miles as troop this past weekend with 37 participants. We had a new member to the 200 mile club, Mr. Murphy! We had a 4-year old, Raylan, riding a a bike with 8" wheels cycle 20 laps (roughly 18/19 miles)!

The highlight was Eagle Scout George P. Tryfiates who broke the event record by finishing 258 miles within the 24-hour time limit!

So, we get asked every year, WHY do you ride around in circles for 24 hours??

It is because every year something amazing happens... and this year ranks right up there. Congratulations to all riders AND a great big THANK YOU to all the parents who chipped in time and/or food to help make it a great event!!
