The Best Prevention: Pay Attention

How are we as a community missing the mark in preventing s*x trafficking of our youth? It was the question I asked Barbara Jean Wilson recently. Survivor, advocate, speaker, and author, she would certainly have the answers. I expected bullet points, at least ten. Instead, she offered one...

Last Friday we poured out our sorrow before God about those affected by human trafficking during the Evening of Prayer and Worship. We prayed for victims and survivors and their families, traffickers, buyers, law enforcement, legislators and the justice system; NGOs and government agencies doing the work to help victims and survivors, and finally for the Church with a Big C and its role in this. There is sorrow in this work but there is also joy when a survivor who felt worthless under the control of a trafficker, gains a sense of value and is hopeful about the future.
