Operation Hood

Operation Hood Operation Hood's name came from working with a 300+ colony of cats located on Hood Drive in January of 2016. Lastly, we request your support in this endeavor.

The colony was a result of abandoned / cats who were born in the wild. Operation Hood has relocated all of the cats to a non-disclosed location. Local animal rescues, residents, and vets are working to improve the lives of a very large and public cat colony located in Spotsylvania, VA. There is more than 150+ cats in need of immediate help. We will not discuss the location of the site, nor will we

refer to the name commonly used to describe the location. Rather, we refer to this colony and endeavor as "Operation Hood". We are choose to do so in order to protect the cats. For those who are familiar with this location, we ask that you refrain from disclosing the location/owner and/or making negative remarks. Additionally, we ask that you do not feed these cats or go on the property. We are attempting to get the cats out of public view and we do not want anything to jeopardize the relationship we have formed with the landowner. We will be seeking the assistance from the public, county officials, local businesses, and other local rescues. We ask you to please keep the cats and volunteers in your thoughts and prayers. There are numerous sick cats and kittens involved and it will take an emotional toll on many volunteers. We have a lot of hard work ahead of us but we truly believe that by working together, we can provide a better life to the many cats living in this colony and prevent further growth.

While friends may come and go, our feline friends have a special way of being there through it all, offering comfort, companionship, and unconditional love (even if they pretend they don’t care sometimes 😺).

National Hug Your Cat Day is the perfect reminder to give our kitties a little extra TLC and thank them for all the joy they bring into our lives. 💕 If your cat loves snuggles, give them an extra hug today! If they prefer a little more independence, a new scratching post, a fun laser toy, or some catnip might earn you a few extra purrs. 😻 Celebrate by sharing photos of your special feline friend in the comments below!

The weather forecast shows temperatures climbing into the upper 90s 🌞 for the first part of the work week.Hot weather can be especially difficult for animals living outdoors.

Colony care is a constant commitment, and each colony’s needs vary based on location and feeding routines. Providing fresh drinking water daily is one of the best ways to help community cats and wildlife cope with the heat. 💧🐾

Every colony is different, but the shared need to stay cool and hydrated during these hot days is the same.
Stay safe out there, and thank you to everyone caring for community cats by feeding them and providing fresh water each day! 💕 operationhood.org

⚡️May 8th is "National Animal Disaster Preparedness Day". Just a reminder that protecting our pets starts long before the storm.

When severe weather hits, our animals depend entirely on us. Today is all about making sure we’re ready to keep them safe, calm, and cared for when emergencies strike.

Be prepared:
• Microchip your pets and keep contact info updated
• Store medical records somewhere you can grab quickly
• Create a disaster plan that includes evacuation routes and safe shelters
• Pack a pet‑specific emergency kit (food, meds, carriers, comfort items)
• Make sure outdoor/community cats have safe shelter options during storms

Disasters don’t wait, preparation saves lives.

💕 It’s National Adopt a Shelter Pet Day! 🐾
Shelters and rescues are full of animals who urgently need safe, loving homes. Spring often brings an increase in homeless pets entering shelters. There’s no better time to open your heart and adopt.Adult and senior pets are waiting too. If you’re hoping for a calmer, ready‑to‑snuggle companion, they make incredible family members. Adoption saves lives and gives shelters and rescues the space to help even more animals.

Not ready to adopt? Fostering truly saves lives. Even a short‑term foster gives a pet safety, comfort, and a chance to thrive.
