Operation Hood Operation Hood's name came from working with a 300+ colony of cats located on Hood Drive in January of 2016. Lastly, we request your support in this endeavor.

The colony was a result of abandoned / cats who were born in the wild. Operation Hood has relocated all of the cats to a non-disclosed location. Local animal rescues, residents, and vets are working to improve the lives of a very large and public cat colony located in Spotsylvania, VA. There is more than 150+ cats in need of immediate help. We will not discuss the location of the site, nor will we refer to the name commonly used to describe the location. Rather, we refer to this colony and endeavor as "Operation Hood". We are choose to do so in order to protect the cats. For those who are familiar with this location, we ask that you refrain from disclosing the location/owner and/or making negative remarks. Additionally, we ask that you do not feed these cats or go on the property. We are attempting to get the cats out of public view and we do not want anything to jeopardize the relationship we have formed with the landowner. We will be seeking the assistance from the public, county officials, local businesses, and other local rescues. We ask you to please keep the cats and volunteers in your thoughts and prayers. There are numerous sick cats and kittens involved and it will take an emotional toll on many volunteers. We have a lot of hard work ahead of us but we truly believe that by working together, we can provide a better life to the many cats living in this colony and prevent further growth.

Straw for Strays! A Little Winter Reminder
Just a friendly reminder as you prepare outdoor shelters for our feline friends: STRAW is the way to go! 💛🐈

🌾 Why straw? Straw helps repel moisture, provides insulation, and helps cats retain their body heat, keeping them warmer and drier during the cold winter months.

🚫 Skip the hay! Hay can absorb moisture, and blankets or towels can become damp and hold cold against a cat’s body. For outdoor shelters exposed to the elements, dry straw is the best bedding choice because it provides insulation while allowing cats to burrow in and stay cozy.

🛒 Where can you find straw? Check your local garden center or nursery, Home Depot, Lowe’s, or Tractor Supply.

Did you know there’s a difference between hay and straw when it comes to keeping community cats warm? Hay holds moisture and can become damp, while straw helps keep cats dry and provides insulation in their outdoor shelters.

It’s a small thing that can make a BIG difference for our community cats! 💛
