Hi! We hope you've had a fantastic summer! Here's a quick update from the HLB.

We are still at it here with our 6 rescue dogs! Sasha, Dakota, Arrow, Ten Bears, Little Bear and Bones are all alive and well, enjoying their days here on the property. With the heat this summer, we've been running the A/C doghouses pretty much 24/7 for the long haired guys - especially Dakota with his thick double coat! The more heat-tolerant dogs have their pools and are in and out of them all day long. Dakota stays in that A/C doghouse from around 11am til late afternoon most days and them emerges to play in the evenings!

We also updated Sasha and Dakota's living situation recently. Since the horses have moved on now, we had a large round pen comprised of about 20 heavy duty fence panels. Jonny took it apart and one by one moved them to the dog area, and then created a long run for Dakota and Sasha so they can just be let out and not have to be on leashes! Now they can go between their A/C doghouse and their larger round area without anyone having to manage them. That's really nice for us caretakers and it gives them some extra running time which they love.

The dogs have been on a rotating diet this summer of raw chicken quarters and a salmon based grain-free dog feed. A bag of chicken costs around $6.50 and the kibble is $40 for a 25 pound bag. We figure we are spending about $10/day on feed for the dogs, on average, which isn't awful considering the quality they're getting, but it also adds up! We just really notice their health deteriorate if we feed them cheaper dog foods, especially the ones with corn/grain fillers. And when deer season starts up again this fall we will have a fresh supply again of local meat and bones for them! We did receive a few donations of Buffalo carcasses this summer from some hunters but those went pretty quickly!
