Did you know; Across the state of Virginia, we are seeing a growing mental health crisis among our children and teenagers.

Nearly one in three high school students reports persistent feelings of sadness or hopelessness, and more than one in five say they have seriously considered attempting su***de.

Each year, over 1,200 lives are lost to su***de in Virginia, and far too many of those lives belong to young people whose stories were just beginning.

But, behind every statistic is a name.
Behind every number is a family.
Behind every headline is a story.

Losing someone to su***de is more than just losing a person. It’s living with the silence that follows. It’s carrying questions that never get answered. It’s replaying moments and wondering what you missed. The long-term effects don’t disappear after the funeral. They live in families. In friends. In schools. In hearts.

This is the story of a child who lost her life after enduring bullying. Not just words. Not just “kids being kids.” Bullying leaves scars we don’t always see. And sometimes, the weight becomes too much.

What breaks me is that a complete stranger heard her story and cared enough to write a song about her. Someone listened. Someone refused to let her story go unheard.

We cannot keep sweeping these stories under the rug. We cannot minimize bullying. We cannot stay silent. We have to speak up. We have to be the voice for those who are struggling and for those who are no longer here to tell their story.

If we don’t talk about it, shame grows in the dark. If we ignore it, cruelty continues unchecked. These lives mattered. Their stories matter. The people left behind matter.

Let’s check on our kids. Let’s check on our friends. Let’s teach kindness. Let’s correct harmful behavior. Let’s create spaces where people feel safe enough to say, “I’m not okay.” Let’s choose compassion over cruelty. Let’s speak life.

We owe them that. 🤍

There’s always something we can do to love others well — especially when it comes to loving people through their mental health battles.

They often say certain cancers are silent killers. But one of the silent killers we don’t talk about enough is su***de.

Recently, a 13-year-old girl took her life after being bullied by classmates. That loss should stop us in our tracks.

As the days grow shorter, darker, and colder, it matters more than ever to check on people. A message, a call, or simply reminding someone they are needed, valued, and loved can save a life.

We also need to honor those we’ve lost — say their names, walk in their memory, light a candle, donate, or show up in ways that say: your life mattered, and it still does.

How we can pray:
• For protection and comfort for those who feel overwhelmed, isolated, or unseen
• For awareness and courage to notice the quiet signs and reach out
• For hearts that choose love — love that interrupts despair

Silence can be dangerous.
Love can be lifesaving.
