SEA members, this post may fall into the "WHILE YOU WERE SLEEPING" category. It's summer, time to relax, try to recharge, and await the next school year, ... right? Nope, your attention is strongly needed. Now that the State has finalized their budget and provided the number of STATE AID dollars to our county, our Board of Education will receive a proposal from our Superintendent on how to use those additional dollars. Discussion and voting will take place Tuesday at the regular 7pm BoE meeting. Teachers and Paraprofessionals, if you were hoping that the reduced provisional salary you received in your contracts would be upgraded to the original , higher amount that was in the earlier Adopted Budget, your hopes may be dashed. That money may be utilized to create a new Office of Student Conduct over at the Bandy Building. Please view the link below to get the full story, and rise out of your chairs and make your opinions known. Should higher pay for ALL levels of Teachers and Paras be sacrificed to potentially assist with discipline matters at the high school level? Whaddya' think?

Now that state aid to SCPS has been determined, the Board of Education will be voting to adopt the Final FY25 School Budget on Tuesday, June 11th. The Super...

Something to be mindful of.

LEA’s Board of Directors wrote an open letter to the LCPS school board on December 7th with a series of critical points that needed to be fixed in the proposed collective bargaining resolution. A joint committee was tasked with making decisions on how to address our concerns, and unfortunately that committee was rife with attempts at union busting by LCPS. Now the Legislative, Audit, and Policy committee has been tasked with addressing these concerns. Over the next few weeks, we’re going to be sharing each of these points and discussing why they’re important.

Confidential Employees: Your school’s DES is probably one of your favorite people in the building. They’re superheroes that keep the schools from falling apart every day! Did you know that the current resolution language would deem them a “confidential employee” and therefore unable to be party to a collectively bargained contract? While we acknowledge that certain employee groups that have access to confidential employee information may not be able to be a part of collective bargaining, the current draft resolution wipes out entire departments that should be included.

Have questions about the collective bargaining resolution? Ask us in the comments! Want to support LEA in the fight for a fair resolution? Share this post, and email the school board and let them know what you think. Most importantly, come to our next union meeting on May 21st! RSVP today! https://vea.link/May24

A detailed, historical perspective on how our schools have been funded in the past will hopefully provide insight to our community, helping to understand the dilemma that we all continue to debate each and every year around budget time.
