For years, the community health clinics we support did not have a fetal doppler, a simple tool that lets health workers listen to a baby’s heartbeat during pregnancy. Without it, warning signs were missed and fetal distress went undetected.

Today, things are beginning to change.

With fetal dopplers now in our clinics:
✅ Health workers can detect danger signs earlier
✅ Mothers can be referred in time for life-saving care
✅ More babies have a chance to be born alive

When a mother hears her baby’s heartbeat during an antenatal visit, it builds trust, and encourages continued facility care.

But there is still so much more to do.

👉 Help us bring lifesaving tools to every last-mile clinic.

👉 Help us empower frontline workers to act early, act decisively, and save lives.

Because every mother and baby deserves a better outcome.

In Kabombeh, a rural community in Sierra Leone, something powerful is happening.

More mothers are showing up. More babies are getting a healthier start. And it all begins with access, trust, and a little extra support.

At our recent antenatal care (ANC) clinic, 31 mothers came together seeking care, education, and community. For many, this is more than a clinic visit; it’s a gathering.

By integrating our maternal feeding program into ANC services, we’re helping remove one of the biggest barriers to care. For mothers facing food insecurity and malnutrition, this program provides both nourishment and a reason to prioritize their health and their baby’s future.

Each visit means:✅ Early detection of pregnancy risks.✅ Better health outcomes for mothers and newborns.✅ Empowered women making informed decisions.

In places like Kabombeh, small, thoughtful interventions can create lasting change.

This is what impact looks like, one mother, one visit, one healthy future at a time.

Through our Birthing Bucket Initiative and the expansion of a fully equipped Labor & Delivery Room at the Binkolo Community Health Centre, more mothers are choosing to get the care they deserve.

We’re seeing:
✔️ More women attending antenatal care (ANC) visits
✔️ More babies being delivered safely at this health facility
✔️ Stronger trust between the community and the healthcare providers

These changes mean safer pregnancies, and safer births.

This is our why.

And this is what impact in action looks like: practical solutions, community trust, and improved health outcomes.

At Adonkia Health Center in the capital city, one critical gap stood between mothers and safe care during childbirth: reliable electricity.

Without power, healthcare workers were often forced to manage deliveries in low visibility limiting their ability to respond quickly, monitor complications, and provide the standard of care every mother deserves.

Through the work of The Mansaray Foundation, we supported the facility by providing a meter and restoring electricity ensuring that deliveries can now take place in a safe, well-lit, and functional environment.

This intervention may seem simple, but its impact is profound:
• Improved maternal and newborn safety during labor and delivery
• Enhanced working conditions for midwives and healthcare staff
• Strengthened health system capacity at the facility level
• Restored dignity and confidence for mothers seeking care

Access to electricity is not a luxury in healthcare, it is a necessity. It enables timely interventions, supports infection prevention, and ensures that no critical moment is lost in the dark.

Every mother deserves safe delivery conditions, no woman should have to deliver in the dark and no life should begin without the care it deserves.

This is what sustainable, targeted global health action looks like: identifying gaps and delivering practical solutions that directly improve outcomes.

During our recent outreach with Binkolo CHC to Kathalan Village, our team provided essential preventive care to 29 children under the age of five, who received Vitamin Angels preventive treatment to help protect them from vitamin deficiencies and support healthy growth and immunity.

In addition, we held a health education session with mothers, focusing on the importance of childhood immunizations.

Access to healthcare remains a challenge for many rural communities, but through initiatives like this, we are helping to bridge that gap.

Every outreach brings us closer to a future where no mother loses a child to preventable causes.

Together, we continue the work: One child, one mother, and one village at a time.

Last week, through The Mansaray Foundation’s Outreach Ultrasound Program, we carried life-saving technology into rural communities where diagnostic imaging simply does not exist.

Seventeen women received their first-ever ultrasound scans.

Seventeen.

Seventeen mothers who had been carrying life without ever seeing their baby.

💡Seventeen families who now have clarity. Reassurance. And in some cases, early detection that can change the course of a pregnancy and save a life.

Why Point-of-Care Ultrasound Matters

In maternal health, timing is everything.

With portable ultrasound, we can:
• Confirm viability and accurate gestational age
• Detect multiple pregnancies
• Screen early for high-risk conditions
• Make timely referrals before complications become emergencies

In rural communities where maternal mortality remains high, this simple, portable device becomes a tool of prevention.

Too often, our rural women only discover complications during labor when options are limited and risks are high. By bringing ultrasound directly to them, we are changing that narrative.

✅ This is what maternal health equity looks like.
✅ This is what prevention looks like.
✅ This is what saving lives before they are at risk looks like.

🙏🏾To our supporters, partners, and health workers you are part of every heartbeat we help protect.

The work continues…

If our work speaks to you, share our work and stand with us as we bring access to rural mothers in Sierra Leone.

The Work Has Begun at Binkolo Community Health Centre!

At The Mansaray Foundation, we don’t just identify needs, we also listen to our community.

Last week marked the start of the expansion and renovation of the labor room at Binkolo CHC, guided by the voices of the women, families, and health workers we serve.

This project is about safer births, dignity for women in labor and an environment that supports quality, compassionate care.

When we support mothers, generations are ultimately strengthened.

The foundation is being laid and it is a step toward ensuring no woman has to give birth in unsafe or overcrowded conditions.

📍 Binkolo Community Health Centre

When mothers are supported in ways that respect their culture, outcomes change.

Through our Birthing Bucket Initiative, mothers who attend 6 of 8 ANC visits and deliver in-facility receive essential supplies for baby and postpartum care. This culturally informed incentive meets women where they are.

🪣 This community-rooted approach has led to:
✔️ Increased ANC attendance
✔️ More facility-based deliveries

By honoring their dignity and community trust, care becomes a choice, not a burden.

Last week, we delivered our routine quota of birthing buckets to Binkolo Community Health Centre reinforcing a simple truth: reducing maternal deaths requires solutions grounded in culture, trust and local realities.

This is one of the ways we approach reducing maternal mortality by encouraging women to deliver in the facilities.

Empowering mothers, one prenatal vitamin at a time! Early supplementation is a proven intervention that strengthens maternal and newborn outcomes.
Through our partnership with Vitamin Angels we’re making sure women in rural Sierra Leone start pregnancy with the nutrients they need early and with confidence.

The Mansaray Foundation will continue our work to expand access, remove barriers, and champion health equity for every rural mother.

Across rural Sierra Leone, too many mothers face childbirth in silence without knowing if their babies are in the right position, or if a preventable complication is quietly forming.

In our work to ensure rural women have access to diagnostic care, we completed free ultrasound scans for over 300 pregnant women in the last two months. Bringing diagnostic care directly into community centers and rural outreaches helped our healthcare team identify breech presentations and high-risk pregnancies, allowing timely referrals to higher levels of care.

Access to ultrasound is a critical component of maternal health equity and a tool that every expectant mother deserves.

As we scale this initiative, the truth remains that access to diagnostic care saves lives and we owe that to our rural mothers and babies.
