Thursday is calling for a sunny evening - and we're looking forward to happy hour after our conference!

Join us at Anchor Bar & Restaurant from 4pm to 6pm, following the conference. Attendees will receive a drink ticket from FCSHRM and will we have light appetizers for attendees. As long as the weather stays dry, we'll enjoy their outdoor patio!

FCSHRM 2025 Conference 💡Breakout Session Speaker Spotlight 💡

Another afternoon breakout session will be Communicating Across Four Workplace Generations presented by Dan Kaplan.

Baby Boomers, Gen X, Millennials, and Gen Z all communicate differently and sometimes don’t understand each other. Feedback is misinterpreted, people are quick to judge, and we’re stuck in labels such as “boomer” and “snowflake.”

What does it take to break free and connect with each other as humans, listen, empathize, and give grace? Talking about it! This session will help bridge the gap between generational communication expectations and blind spots.

Dan Kaplan is driven by the belief that anything is possible if we can just learn to talk to each other. As a mountain-climbing expedition leader, Dan has guided many teams through difficult conversations and high-altitude danger. Combined with his nearly 30 years of communications leadership experience across the public, non-profit, and private sectors, Dan helps leaders and teams communicate to their audiences and each other.

FCSHRM 2025 Conference 💡Breakout Session Speaker Spotlight 💡

One of our afternoon breakout sessions will be led by Julie Christiansen who will be speaking about Generational Survival Tips.

Today’s workforce spans five generations - each with its own values, work habits, and communication styles. This session tackles generational differences with humor and insight, challenging stereotypes and uncovering the strengths each group brings to the table.

Julie is a recovering HR professional who still dabbles in people management but swapped the boardroom for the backwoods. Now a hiking guide, outdoor enthusiast and Farm Manager at ThorpeWood, she spends her days leading adventures and helping others reconnect - with nature and with themselves. Julie is passionate about challenging the way people think, especially when it comes to personnel dynamics, leadership, and what it really means to work together. Expect real talk, a few laughs, and maybe a trail metaphor or two!
