Five years ago, the Frederick Police Department lost Lieutenant Stew Alcorn following an unexpected medical emergency.

Those who served alongside Stew remember him as one of the hardest-working people you could meet, but even more so for the person he was - someone with a big personality, an even bigger smile and a willingness to help anyone who needed it.

And for those who knew him, a familiar phrase still brings back his unmistakable personality: “What do ya say, 5-0?” It was something Stew began saying as a student officer in FPD’s 50th Academy and continued calling out in the halls of headquarters for years afterward.

Stew’s legacy continues in many ways, including through his wife, children and members of his family who have followed in his footsteps by joining our department as sworn officers. It also lives on through the What Would Stew Do Foundation, which honors his spirit of helping others and recently presented a donation to the City Youth Matrix.

Five years later, Stew remains deeply missed by his FPD family. Today, we remember his life, his service and the lasting mark he left on our department and community.

The Fraternal Order of Police FSK Lodge 91 is proud to announce its support for Kevin Meyer to serve as the next Chief of Police.

After careful consideration, FOP FSK Lodge 91 believes that promoting from within provides the department and the community with an experienced leader who understands the department’s personnel, operations, culture, challenges, and the needs of the community we serve.

Kevin Meyer has been a proud member of FOP FSK Lodge 91 for 18 years. During that time, he has had the opportunity to work alongside and advocate for the men and women of this department while gaining a firsthand understanding of the issues, concerns, and priorities that impact our membership. His longstanding membership in the Lodge provides him with a unique perspective on the relationship between department leadership and its employees, and the importance of maintaining mutual respect, communication, and trust.

Kevin Meyer brings valuable institutional knowledge, extensive experience, and an established understanding of the men and women who serve this community every day. We believe he possesses the leadership, integrity, accountability, and sound judgment necessary to lead the department into the future.

The position of Chief of Police requires more than administrative experience. It requires a leader who understands the challenges faced by officers, values the contributions of department personnel, and is committed to maintaining the trust and confidence of both the department and the community. We believe Kevin Meyer has demonstrated these qualities throughout his career.
