Happy Saturday!!!

Congratulations to our Project GUIDE 2026 graduate, Nate, on earning his Learner’s Permit and passing the test on his FIRST try! 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾

This is what removing barriers and taking the next step looks like!

Throughout Project GUIDE, Nate rode his electric bike to the program every day, committed to completing the program, and kept working toward his goals. Then, on a Saturday morning, when he could have been sleeping in, he got up, went to take his Learner’s Permit test, and PASSED!

Now another transportation barrier is being removed.

Yesterday, our Project GUIDE young adults (ages 18–24) had an incredible opportunity to go behind the scenes of the Amtrak B&P Tunnel Replacement Program, one of the largest infrastructure projects in the region.

Participants toured four active project sites, where they saw firsthand the different phases of construction and learned how each site plays a critical role in transforming the future of rail transportation. Along the way, they met with project superintendents who shared their career journeys, explained the planning and coordination behind major infrastructure projects, and highlighted the many skilled trades and professional careers needed to bring a project of this magnitude to life.

One of the highlights of the day was hearing directly from an excavator operator, who walked our participants through the process of excavation, site access, and creating tunnels for the installation of underground utilities. Seeing the equipment in action and learning about the precision, teamwork, and expertise required gave our young adults a whole new appreciation for the construction industry.

With this being a 10-year project, our participants could genuinely envision themselves working on a site like this in the near future. In fact, many were already asking when they could come back to see the project’s progress. That’s what meaningful career exposure is all about—helping young people see what’s possible and inspiring them to take the next step toward a rewarding career.

A special thank you to Clark Construction Group, Laisar Management Group, and Kiewit Shea for opening your doors, sharing your expertise, and investing your time in the next generation of skilled trades professionals. Your willingness to provide access, answer questions, and expose our youth to real-world career opportunities is making a lasting impact.

Access matters. Exposure creates opportunity. Opportunity changes lives. 🚧👷🏾‍♀️👷🏽‍♂️

Today, we kicked off Trades Exposure Week with an incredible visit to the Baltimore Electrical JATC Training Center!

Our Project GUIDE participants had the opportunity to learn firsthand what it takes to become a union electrical apprentice, explore the apprenticeship pathway, and gain valuable insight into careers in the electrical trade. They also rolled up their sleeves for a hands-on wiring activity, giving them a real taste of the skills used in the field.

A heartfelt thank you to the entire Baltimore Electrical JATC team for welcoming our participants and investing your time, knowledge, and expertise into the next generation of skilled trades professionals. Opportunities like these inspire confidence, expand career awareness, and help our youth take meaningful steps toward successful futures.

🎉 Congratulations to Jesse! 🎉

A huge congratulations to Jesse for passing his Learner’s Permit Test today! 🚗👏

At Project GUIDE, we’re committed to removing barriers to employment, and transportation is one of the biggest. Today is more than earning a permit, it’s another step toward career success.

Last week, Jesse made the decision to schedule his test for first thing Monday morning to start the week strong. Today, that decision paid off.

Next stop: Driver’s Education!

Sometimes, taking the first step is all it takes to change the direction of your future.

We’re proud of you, Jesse! Keep going! 💪🏾

Fun indeed! Our youth truly enjoyed themselves.

During week six, our Project GUIDE participants stepped beyond the classroom and into the real world which included sharing meals with business owners, walking active job sites, asking tough questions, and hearing firsthand how careers in the skilled trades and construction industry are built.

One message resonated at every stop:

There is no perfect path to success. Every career begins with taking the first step.

From painting and historic preservation to commercial construction and real estate development, our youth discovered that every professional has a unique story, but they all share one thing in common—they started somewhere.

The curiosity, confidence, and engagement shown by our participants reminded us why employer partnerships matter. When businesses open their doors, they don’t just showcase careers, they inspire futures.

A sincere thank you to Trish Bauer of Brushes With Flair, Julie Ruppert, Matt Poffenbarger, and Alicia Vincent of Ruppert Properties, Steve Hartman and Pete Ring of Hart Home Solutions and Dani Adam and the Frederick County Building Industry Association for investing your time, knowledge, and encouragement into the next generation.

As we close out the week, our participants will begin creating their personal career roadmaps, turning inspiration into action.

Exposure creates opportunity. Opportunity builds confidence. Confidence changes lives.

Our students were exposed to the ins and outs of a large scale HVAC system, daily maintenance operations, and even had the opportunity to speak with FCC technicians about their career path!

Everyday our participants continue to show up ready to learn and set themselves up for success in construction and the skilled trades🙌✨🦺
