Children of Promise, Children of Hope To promote literacy, health and physical fitness to the children of a rural community in the Dominican Republic. http://www.childrenofpromiseandhope.com

Our work here in the rural community of Los Tocones de las Galeras de Samana consists of many aspects including, but not limited to:
- Gathering new books in Spanish for all ages
- Assisting pregnant women with resources and knowledge
- Supplying the children with resources for physical development

Going to be going down to the D.R. ourselves in the Spring. If anyone has some new books in Spanish. think about letting us bring them to the library when we travel down. Just get in touch.

Good luck to Chris Dougherty, his sons Leonard and Nathaniel, and their wonderful friends Rachel, Sam and Brendan- as well as some cousins. They are all on their way to the DR as I write, carrying lots of books with them. Met with them last night, and was duly impressed. Looking forward to more great things happening at the library.

Great news. Thanks to the wonderful folks at The Curious Iguana Book Store, who have worked with us non-stop, we now have a shipment of brand new high school books for carrying down to the DR. After tomorrow we will have a sizable order in for the younger children. There is nothing as great as new books!!!

It has been quite a while, but we are back and getting busy for this year's books to the Dominican. If anyone has books in Spanish, please let us know. The group leaves August 4. So much going on--- stay tuned for new information on what we are going to be doing!

We are back. We had a very successful trip to the DR. Thanks to Nathaniel Dougherty and his two friends Brendan and Douglas for helping carry down all of the 400 books, resources, school supplies, and materials for pregnant women. We made it there, battled the heat, had a fabulous time, and did some wonderful cultural sharing. We are so blessed to have our friends in Los Tocones, D.R. in our lives! We are already getting ready to plan for next time!

Once again, The Dancing Bear Toy Store in downtown Frederick has greatly helped us. In addition to the books, clothes, supplies we will be carrying down to the DR on Wednesday, we now have boxes of Bric Tek, a Lego type toy that we will be carrying down to our library.Cannot wait to see the look on the children's faces. Thank you, thank you, thank you Dancing Bear. I would not shop any place else!!!.

Thanks to a donation from the parents at the Onica Prall Child Development Center, under the leadership of my dear friend Marisel, I was able to order some Board Books to take to our library and share with pregnant women in our village. So excited--- thank you, thank you, thank you!!!

A big 'Thank You' to Emily Hood, Jack Banach, Stephanie, Banach, and Suzanne Banach for their very, very generous donations to the library. We leave Wednesday- and I was able to order some additional books to take along. Gosh, people are so generous and thoughtful! Each book will include a book plate thanking them!

We are packing up books. Have any in Spanish? We can always use them for the library, regardless of level. We carry down pre-school through high school books.

Well, our trip plans are all made. We will be going down to the DR on August 6th. Wish us a safe trip- cool weather- and no hurricanes. We will bringing along lots of Spanish books, school supplies, and things for pregnant women. Cannot wait!!!
