The National Day of Prayer is an annual observance held on the first Thursday of May, inviting people of all faiths to pray for our nation. It was created in 1952 by a joint resolution of the United States Congress, and signed into law by President Harry S. In 1988, the law was amended and signed by President Reagan, permanently setting the day as the first Thursday in May. Each year, the president signs a proclamation, encouraging all Americans to pray on this day.

Received the following email from a friend in Baltimore County:
"I remember walking to the front of the church at the tender age of eight to rededicate my life to Christ. Since then, on many more private occasions, I have felt the Lord prompting me to reflect on where I've come and where I'm going. Today, I am traveling to DC to do the same. I am seeking the Lord in prayer, thanksgiving, repentance, and recommitting to following his lead. I am also praying like many of you for His continued awakening over our nation as well.

This Sunday, May 17th, The Lord providentially extended an open invitation to every American to rededicate ourselves and our nation to Him. In anticipation of the 250th anniversary of our nation's birth, One Nation Under God, the President has invited Christians to prepare. It is also a time, from wherever we are to lead ourselves and others in a prayer of rededication. It is a moment to celebrate our history and what God has done for us. We give thanks for God's extraordinary kindness in granting us freedom in Christ and for protecting our freedoms as Americans.

Worship and the program in DC begins at 10:30 am."

This year, the National Day of Prayer Task Force will commemorate two historic milestones: 250 years of prayer in America and 75 years of prayer for America. As we observe the 250th anniversary of our nation’s founding, alongside the 75th annual National Day of Prayer, we recognize this as a significant and sacred moment in our history. We believe God is stirring the hearts of believers across our nation to increase their prayers for America in this pivotal year.

America’s 250th
On Sunday, May 17th at the National Mall in Washington, D.C. from 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM, join with others from every state in the Union to give thanks and praise to God for 250 years of His Divine Providence for the United States. We’ll be praying that God Bless and Protect America for the next 250 years, and we’ll solemnly rededicate our country as One Nation under God. This date coincides with the historical May 17, 1776 day of fasting and prayer declared by the Continental Congress. This is more than an event — it will be a once in a lifetime national moment.

NOTE: If you plan on going, you'll need to signup on Freedom250 site.
