Thanks to the incredible generosity of families, veterans, and community groups across Michigan, we’ve been able to purchase wheelchairs for our Mid-Michigan Honor Flight missions.

Each chair carries a hero to their memorials in Washington, D.C. — and each of these tags carries a hero’s name with them.

Our hearts are heavy as we share the passing of Mid Michigan Honor Flight honoree Ronald Gene Vance of Plainfield Township. Ron left us peacefully on May 22, 2026, held close by the family he loved so much.

Ron was a Vietnam Veteran with a quiet strength and a big heart. A UAW man who lived by Fear No One, Respect Everyone. But if you asked him what mattered most, he’d tell you it was Dorothy, his kids, his 14 grandkids who called him “Papa,” and the young athletes he coached for 20+ years.

He had the best laugh, the kindest advice, and a way of making an ordinary day feel special. “Day drive popcorn adventures” with Dorothy, sunrise on Indian Lake, a fish on the line with the Lunker Hunters. That was Ron. He showed up, he stayed loyal, and he loved deeply.

Every flag on every grave. Every empty chair. Every hero who left home and never returned.

Mid Michigan Honor Flight exists because of their sacrifice. On this Memorial Day, we honor them — and we promise to keep telling their stories through the veterans we fly.

Freedom lives because of their sacrifice. 🇺🇸

"Welcome home."

It's the phrase many Vietnam veterans never heard. For WWII and Korean War vets, decades have passed since their service.

Mid Michigan Honor Flight changes that. For one day, we give them the honor, gratitude, and closure they deserve with an all-expenses-paid trip to Washington, D.C.

Seeing a 90-year-old WWII vet at his memorial... watching a Korean War vet reconnect with his brothers... witnessing a Vietnam vet finally get his welcome home... there's nothing like it.
