4 Bar 4 Ranch

4 Bar 4 Ranch Help restore the historic 4 Bar 4 Ranch in Grand County CO. These stagecoach buildings date to the 18

History: Homesteaded in 1895 by Dick McQueary, the 320-acre 4 Bar 4 Ranch served as a stop on the Georgetown Stage Line and a roadhouse for travelers making their way over Berthoud Pass. With the advent of the automobile, the roadway was considered an integral part of the Trans-Continental “Midland Trail” highway. The railroad came through in 1905 and put an end to the stage line, but the ranch co

ntinued to host travelers until 1912 or 1913 when it was purchased and converted into a Ford dealership, selling Ford vehicles until 1917. Located on the 4 Bar 4 Ranch, the Hay Barn (also known as Pond Barn) is a rare style of hay barn, constructed using trees from the ranch property. The 4 Bar 4 Ranch was listed as one of Colorado Preservation Inc.’s Most Endangered Places for 2014.

"Despite the fact that we didn't get our State Historical Fund grant for this year's work, I (Kent) went ahead and did the work anyway. Daubing is done, final grading is complete, and the fence is in. Steve is working on the re-creation of the Historic 4 BAR 4 signage, and we would still like to install some interpretive signage - maybe next summer."

Great Work Kent and Family!! Love this photo that you recreated from the Historic Photo, that we have used as reference, as seen below with the McQueary Family on the front porches:

A story of near disaster, renovation, and success.
This is the 4Bar4 Ranch off of County Rd 5 in Grand County. The photos are from 1910, 2014, and today. Homesteaded in 1895 by Dick and Jessie McQueary, the 320-acre 4 Bar 4 Ranch served as a stagecoach stop on the Georgetown Stage Line, and as a roadhouse for travelers making their way over Berthoud Pass. Here Dick and Jessie also raised cattle, raced horses and raised a family.

In 1905, the railroad came to Middle Park, which virtually put an end to the stagecoach line. The 4 Bar 4 continued to host travelers until 1912-1913 when the ranch was purchased by Fred Fe**ch. With the passion of Colorado entrepreneurs, Fe**ch converted the horse barn to the first Ford dealership in Grand County. The 4 Bar 4 Road (now CR 5) became an integral section of The Midland Trail, America's first Trans-Continental highway.

In 2014 It was named one of the 5 most endangered places by Colorado Preservation, Inc. Historic Fraser Inc raised all the money and is doing all the work on this project and as you can see, it's a huge success. There's more to do and if you're interested in helping contact 4 Bar 4 Ranch
