Grand Kids is a child care center that provides care and learning experiences for infants through pre-kindergarten age children. The teachers have great respect for the varying ages and developmental levels of all the children. Activities are differentiated and geared to the many different individual levels and learning styles of each child. In addition, older children are encouraged to help and l
ead the younger children. While the younger child is constantly learning from the older child, the older child takes on a teaching role, and has the opportunity to build self-esteem, to learn responsibility, and to reinforce learned skills and concepts. We see this type of scaffolding as one of the strengths of our center. We are dedicated to creating an environment that is not only welcoming, caring and nurturing but also one that encourages children to be active, enthusiastic learners and creative explorers. We want children to feel safe and comfortable so they are not afraid to try out their own ideas and think their own thoughts. We encourage children to learn at their own pace and in ways that are best for them. Reinforcing these good habits and attitudes, particularly a positive sense of themselves, will make a difference throughout their lives. The teachers at Grand Kids consider it a privilege to teach and care for your children. We believe in the importance of education for the whole child. Our goal for your child is to help them develop emotionally, socially, physically and intellectually through each stage of development creating a strong foundation for future learning. We value your child’s individuality and contribution to the world. Thank you for giving us this special time with your children. Grand Kids is a registered trade name of the Wapiti Child Care Center Parent Organization, a Colorado non-profit corporation under IRS code 501c3. A Board of Directors consisting of volunteer parents or guardians of children attending the school owns the organization. Each classroom strives to provide the highest level of learning to each child in a loving, active, and creative environment. Our infant room has 5 infants per day with one teacher. Our program for infants sets its pace around the needs and unique differences of each child. The teacher centers her day on the schedules of those for whom she cares. The teachers provide the infants with a warm and stimulating environment: One that provides them with a sense of security as well as with a place to grow and develop to their potential during this critical stage of life. Our toddler room has 10 toddlers per day with two teachers in the classroom. The toddler age is a very exciting age as they are working on mastering their gross motor skills, working on becoming autonomous, and are always exploring! The teachers understand this and center their day on activities that support this active learning style but understand the need for flexibility and spontaneity when needed. Our preschool room has 10 preschoolers per day with two teachers in the classroom. Our preschool room has a rich curriculum that includes Handwriting Without Tears, The Incredible Years Dinosaur School-Social & Emotional Development, Multi Sensory Spelling & Reading, science, math, sign language, Spanish, cooking, art, cultural studies, and music. In addition to the regular curriculum, it is very important to Grand Kids to offer many extracurricular programs such as: library time, ski lessons, gymnastics, swim lessons and educational field trips throughout Grand County.
