D.A. Varnado Store Museum

Our Annual Budget Committee Meeting will no be held on Sunday, September 27, 2026 at 2:00 p.m. The meeting will be held in the Museum’s Annex which is to the building to the rear of the museum.

We look forward to having fellowship with the museum members who can attend! Lite refreshments will be served. We value your suggestions in any way to promote, preserve, and support our museum.

Looking forward to seeing you and your support of the preservation of future generations!

Did you ever wonder about your family’s lineage, where did your family come from, how they got here, who you look like, how I’m related to others, etc. Now showing is our exhibit called GENEALOGY! It is an amazing presentation with various genealogy of folks around Washington Parish who took time out to put together their genealogy, pictures from the past, all on loan by many families for your review and research.

Our museum is located at 936 Pearl Street, next door to WST in Franklinton, LA. We are opened on Saturday 10 a.m. till 4 p.m. and on Sunday 1 p.m. till 4 p.m. This exhibit will up end at the end of August 2026.

Come by the museum on Saturday 10 a.m. till 4 p.m. and on Sunday 1 p.m. till 4 p.m. now and until the end of August to check out the possibilities of being connected with your family through various family’s history. What an exciting time of research and having a source of genealogy loaned to the museum for your benefit by people within the area. It is a free museum! Exhibit as well as all the other exhibits! We would enjoy your visit!

Please note that the museum will be closed on July 4-5, and we warmly invite you to visit the following weekend, bringing your Washington Parish family genealogy to share with us in the July-August exhibit.

FAMILY HISTORIES AND GENEALOGIES AT VARNADO STORE MUSEUM

A new exhibit for July and August at the museum will feature family histories and genealogies. The public is asked to participate by sharing their own family trees with genealogy books, photographs, etc. to be loaned to the museum for the two-month long display. The museum has several genealogy books, family tree illustrations, and old photographs of families of our area. These will form the basis of the exhibit and loans from the public will fill out the exhibit. If you would like to share your family’s history, you may bring your items to the museum on the second weekend of July. As we celebrate our nation’s 250th birthday, we will all look back at our ancestry during this new and exciting reflection of the families of our citizens.
