It's Field Day Friday!

This week, let's take a look at our location for the Mid-State Amateur Radio Club's Field Day activation on Saturday, June 27, beginning at 1800 UTC. Northwest Park Annex is at 1600 Fry Road in Greenwood, IN. This is a familiar location to many MARC members who have attended the annual picnic in years past. (See the photos below.)

We'll have a large shelter with picnic tables for equipment to set up in with ample parking and restrooms nearby. Grassy areas around the shelter are perfect for antennas, but the parking lot is close for operating from your vehicle.

For our 2026 Field Day activation, we'll be "off-grid" using batteries, generators and solar power. We'll operate on as many bands as we can using all modes. If your portable radio rig isn't quite ready for field work or you're still studying for your license or an upgrade, don't worry. Come on by and MARC members will make sure you Get On The Air.

Gov. Mike Braun has declared the week of Mar. 8-14 as Severe Weather and Flood Preparedness Week in Indiana. Held annually,
the NWS, IDHS, the Amateur Radio Community, and numerous other partners, come together to inform the public about the hazards of thunderstorms, tornadoes, and how to be prepared for severe weather. Throughout the week, the NWS will be posting valuable information on a variety of topics to its social media sites, Facebook, and X.

On Tuesday, Mar. 10, at 10:15 a.m. we will have the annual tornado warning test and associated Skywarn Test Net. We will activate a brief net on the MARC's W9MID (146.835 MHz) repeater and take check-ins at the time.

Additional information about the week can be found on the NWS Indy website at https://www.weather.gov/ind/SevereWxWeek.

W9MID - 2026 Winter Field Day...Before The Snow.

Despite the weather forecast of extreme snow and cold temperature, MARC activated for Winter Field Day in the 72 degree comfort of KA9ZPA's Barn. We watched the weather outside and as the snow began to accumulate in the late afternoon, we wrapped up early as conditions deteriorated beyond our operators' comfort level.

More than a dozen members and guests braved the cold to enjoy the chili, making contacts, fellowship and talking radio. Thanks to Joe and Karen for hosting. Thanks to Jim KD9WVD for coordinating.

More photos are posted on the MARC website: midstatehams.org
