FYI :
Following last Wednesday's Trail Mix, 22 cyclists rode from the Saltbox to Woods & River Coffee Shop in Oil City. We were excited to see Cranberry Township repairing the hole we call "Julie's Crater" on the Samuel Justus Trail. They had to put a new drain pipe across the trail. We really appreciate that they allowed us to pass by as they were working. Thank you, Cranberry Township, for keeping the trail in such good shape!

On Wednesday, September 2, Trail Mix: Coffee and Conversation will continue from 8:00 - 10:00 a.m. Immediately afterwards at 10:00, cyclists are invited to ride to the Belmar Bridge where Aaron and Adam will help us get our bikes up and down the steps so that we can enjoy the Sandy Creek Trail. This is a ride-at-your-own-risk event utilizing public bike trails. There is no cost to join these cyclists on their ride.

Once we return to the Saltbox, the group will ride to Bodien's Hot Dogs in Franklin for lunch.

FyI:

During our Wednesday Trail Mix, we were joined by a large group of senior cyclists from Ohio who were riding the Allegheny River Trail for their first time. They planned to cycle to Emlenton and back. It’s exciting to see people from out of state enjoying our wonderful trails!

Twenty-four cyclists joined our group ride, with 19 traveling to McClintock Well. The group enjoyed lunch at Casey’s before returning to the Saltbox.

Weather permitting, on Wednesday, August 19, stop by for Trail Mix: Coffee and Conversation from 8:00-10:00 a.m. The group ride will start at 10:00. We will cycle south to Brandon and back to the Saltbox then head into Franklin to enjoy lunch at Haggerty’s Ice Cream & More. This is a casual ride. All cyclists are welcome to join the fun.

Saturday is forecast to be sunny and seasonably warm. I’ll be at the Salt Box House at the Franklin Trailhead from noon to 2 PM. Come on in and check the place out. If you have a question we’ll see if my 35 years of traversing the river valley can answer it. The PA State Stone Skipping Championships will be taking place across the river at Riverfront Park, too. Bring your bike, pack a picnic and come watch the “kerplunkers” as they compete for a trophy, bragging rights and a pound of fudge. See ya Saturday !!!

Take time to stop and smell the thistle (even though it really doesn’t smell like anything).

What better place to wait out a brief shower than the south end of Rockland Tunnel?
