Fall is upon us and it is some of the best time of year to experience the trails. The Sandy Creek Trail can be absolutely gorgeous when cloaked in fall foliage. This year has been particularly wet in terms of rainfall. Some say rainfall amounts directly affect the intensity of leaf color. I’ve tried for years to correlate the amount of yellows and reds to how wet the previous few months have been. I can’t seem to figure out a pattern. Do you have a theory in the matter? Share it in a comment. One thing is for sure, though. In October you don’t get swarmed by bugs when you stop to rest or take in your surroundings. See you on the trail !!!

Last Wednesday's Trail Mix: Coffee and Conversation was a bit chilly, so the coffee warmed up a few trail users. We were quite surprised when a reporter from The Derrick stopped by to interview us. We want to thank Helen Fielding for the very nice article. The weather cleared up just in time for 21 cyclists
to hit the trails to Oil City where we enjoyed lunch at The Taco Shack. Thank you, Axion's Arcade, for allowing us to park our bikes inside the arcade while we ate!

Wednesday, September 30, will be the final Coffee and Conversation at the Saltbox from 8:00 - 10:00 a.m. That will be followed at 10:00 by a group bike ride to Brandon and back to the Saltbox. We will then ride into downtown Franklin and grab a bite to eat at Bodien's hot dog stand.
Although the coffee and conversation is coming to an end, the 10:00 group rides will continue while the weather permits. Future group rides will be posted on Facebook at the Venango County Trail Mix page.

Trail Mix Ride :
Even though last Wednesday morning's weather was rainy and stormy, a few trail users still stopped by for coffee and conversation at our weekly Trail Mix. The sun came out just in time for 17 cyclists to enjoy a ride to Brandon and back to the Saltbox followed by lunch at Benjamin's Roadhouse.

Trail Mix: Coffee and Conversation will be set up at the Saltbox from 8:00 - 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 23. At 10:00, join other cyclists in a ride to Oil City for lunch and back to the Saltbox. The lunch location has not yet been confirmed, but we are hoping to go to the Taco Shack. This is a casual, ride-at-your-own-risk event using public trails and roads.

Last Wednesday we had the honor of meeting a group of cyclists who were cycling from Buffalo to Pittsburgh, the entire Erie to Pittsburgh Trail. They were traveling around 50 miles a day and had spent the night at the campsites at the Oil City Marina. They were thrilled to get a cup of coffee to start their day's journey. Once the Erie to Pittsburgh Trail system is completed, we can look forward to seeing more cyclists in our area. Following Trail Mix, the cycling group rode to Oil City and enjoyed lunch at McNerney's. It was nice to have some new cyclists join in on the ride.

Trail Mix: Coffee and Conversation will continue this Wednesday, September 16, from 8:00 - 10:00 a.m. At 10:00 there will be a group ride from the Saltbox to Brandon and back followed by lunch at Benjamin's Roadhouse. This casual ride is open to any cyclists and is a ride-at-your-own risk event. The group utilized the public trail system and roads.

Last Wednesday's Trail Mix: Coffee and Conversation was marred by storms, but that didn't stop the cyclists from coming out at 10:00. The group cycled from the Saltbox to Brandon and back then headed to Bodien's Hot Dog Stand in Franklin for lunch.

Trail Mix will return from 8:00 - 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 9. At 10:00, any interested cyclists can meet at the Saltbox and cycle to Oil City for lunch, then back to the Saltbox. The lunch destination has not yet been confirmed, but the group is tentatively planning to eat at McNerney's. This is a ride-at-your-own-risk event using public trails and roads. The ride is casual and open to riders of all ages.

Following last Wednesday's Trail Mix, 22 cyclists rode from the Saltbox to Woods & River Coffee Shop in Oil City. We were excited to see Cranberry Township repairing the hole we call "Julie's Crater" on the Samuel Justus Trail. They had to put a new drain pipe across the trail. We really appreciate that they allowed us to pass by as they were working. Thank you, Cranberry Township, for keeping the trail in such good shape!

On Wednesday, September 2, Trail Mix: Coffee and Conversation will continue from 8:00 - 10:00 a.m. Immediately afterwards at 10:00, cyclists are invited to ride to the Belmar Bridge where Aaron and Adam will help us get our bikes up and down the steps so that we can enjoy the Sandy Creek Trail. This is a ride-at-your-own-risk event utilizing public bike trails. There is no cost to join these cyclists on their ride.

Once we return to the Saltbox, the group will ride to Bodien's Hot Dogs in Franklin for lunch.

Sixteen cyclists met at the Saltbox after last Wednesday's Trail Mix and cycled to Brandon and back. Then Don safely led the group through the crazy road work in Franklin to Haggerty's Ice Cream.

Join us for Trail Mix: Coffee and Conversation at the Saltbox on Wednesday, August 26, from 8:00 - 10:00 a.m. At 10:00, there will be a casual group ride to Woods and River Coffee Shop's Northside location in Oil City and back. This is a ride-at-your-own-risk ride using the official Erie to Pittsburgh bike trail system.
