Beware: On the bridge over East Sandy Creek, (5 mile mark, Rockland Township), apparently some "people" have removed boards on the bridge. They removed so many that it is dangerous now, a person could fall thru. This is more than vandalism, somebody could get seriously hurt. If anybody has any Information let us know. The PSP are being notified.
The volunteers are going to work on this today. 5/19/26.

FYI: This is approx 3.2 miles down on the river trail. There was a 75 foot long landslide because of the rain. It has been staked and caution taped around it for safety until we can get a plan and possibly funding to fix. PLEASE BE CAREFUL IN THIS AREA.

The roll up door on the south end of the Rockland Tunnel is up for the summer season. Here’s a full walk through of the tunnel from south to north (upstream). I use a headlamp now. I used to enjoy stumbling through in the dark but last time I tried that I twisted my ankle. I’m getting too old for that stuff. April 10, 2026

** AVTA is in need of Volunteers. The Salt Box/Info center, located at the Trailhead in Franklin, will be opening April 15th for the season thru end of Sept. We currently are down to 9 volunteers. The Salt Box will be open Fri-Sat-Sun-Mon approx 12-4. So it is 2 or 3 hour shifts. You only need a slight knowledge of the Trail. We do sell T-shirts, talk with people, many from out of the area. We also have membership applications and brochures of other things in our community inside. So we give them info on our great Trail and town, as in places to eat and lodging. We need more people so these 9 don't need to be scheduled every other weekend. It would be awesome to have enough people so we only need to schedule everyone 2 shifts a month. Our concern is if we don't get more people willing to Volunteer we are in jeopardy of not having the Salt Box open for some weekends. It's a great way to give back to our community! For more information message us on here.

The Allegheny River Trail about 21 miles downstream from Franklin. Clear enough to walk. The Sandy Creek Trail is still snow covered and rough, though.

A couple of weeks ago I told you never to bury your bikes too deep in the garage or shed. Wellllllll, now I’m gonna tell you that it’s probably a good idea to make sure the snow blower is more accessible than the bikes. February 19, 2026. Sandy Creek Trail
