On this day in 1789, George Washington took the oath of office and turned a written Constitution into a lived reality. He didn’t step into power lightly, he felt its weight. He understood that liberty wouldn’t survive on structure alone, but on the character of the people.
A republic depends not just on good leaders, but on a people willing to govern themselves with humility, gratitude, and moral conviction.
